Hi

I used to use Gordian Knot with no problems (v0.28), it's a great program :-) but I have just upgraded my computer and now I cannot get 0.28 or 0.28.5 to work.

During the first (DivX 5.05) pass, I get the following message:

Title: VirtualDub error
"Avisynth read error:
Avisynth: caught an access violation at <address 1>, attempting to read from <address 2>"

If I look at the log, there's this:
22:22:13: Started DivX5-First Pass: C:\_temp\ripping temp\24.avs
22:24:40: Finished DivX5-First Pass: Duration: 2 minutes, 27 seconds.
22:24:40: Trying to open Log-file.
22:24:40: Success: Log-file open.
22:24:40: Encoded: 5415 Frames.
22:24:40: Speed: 36.685 Frames per Second.
22:24:40: WARNING: Number of counted frames differs from settings!
22:24:40: WARNING: Settings: 32850
22:24:40: WARNING: Counted: 5415
22:24:40: WARNING: Difference: 27435
22:24:40: Correcting Bitrate...
22:24:40: Original Bitrate = 1271 k(=1000)Bits/s
22:24:40: Error: Correction impossible.
22:24:40: Now encoding at 1271 k(=1000)Bits/s

I've done a search, and come across:
GordianKnot.AviSynth2.0.8andPlugins.Setup.exe
which is supposed to help out people with my error but I still get the problem.

Is this error message still known to be a problem? Is there something I've not done/need to do?

Thanks

If both versions of avisynth have problems, then it's probably corrupted vob. Try reripping it. If problem persists then it's worth going to avisynth forum with a sample of the vob file which causes a problem...

P.S. This belongs to the main forum

Thanks for your reply Len0x

I was trying to encode TV episode mpgs to divx, rather than a DVD.

I also know there isn't a problem with the mpgs because I successfully encoded them on my old setup (but they were too dark so I was going to do them again and use the luminence filter).

When I downgraded to GK 0.28 and Avisynth 2.08 I had to stop using Mpeg2Dec3.dll due to the "mpeg2dec3.dll is not an avisynth 1.0 plugin" error, but I still get the same "Avisynth: caught an access violation" error.

I'm sorry Len0x, you say I should have posted this to the main forum: which is the "main" one please?

I didn't really think it was an Avisynth problem due to the files working previously, and the older Avisynth not working either. I was thinking it was more likely to be hardware related? (I'm running nForce2 ultra, with dual channel DDR Twinmos ram, Barton 2500+ multiplier clocked to a 3000+).

Cheers

Okay, after a bit of fiddling it seems that all versions run fine if I lower my multiplier. Yay I can encode again! Shame I have to loose some speed though :-(
