I use Gordian Knot solely for ripping DVDs to DivX5.. mmm.. I use MP3 for audio encoding, and never use subtitles.

Out of the following two files:

Gordian Knot rippack 0.28.5 - contains basic software to do SBC, DivX5 and XviD encoding as described in my guides - contains DVDDecrypter 3.1.6.0, vStrip 0.8f CSS, DVD2AVI 1.76 CLI, DVD2AVI 1.77.3, BeSweet 1.5b18, azidts 0.1, vsfilter, Decomb 4.02, fluxxmooth, Convolution3D, Deen, TomsMoComp, AviSynth 2.52, VobSub 2.23, VirtualDubMod CVS 20030611, Nandub RC2 lumafix ecffix, AviMuxGUI 1.13, chapterXtractor 0.962 and Robot4Rip 0.4.

Gordian Knot Codec Pack 1.4 - audio and video codecs for GKnot encoding if you don't have it already - contains DivX3.11alpha, DivX5.05 Pro, XviD Koepi 24062003-1, Huffyuv 0.2.2.1, AC3Filter 0.69b, mpgaudioax, Morgan Stream Switcher and ffdshow alpha 2003-05-23.

What files can I afford to exclude during installation?

cheers.

If you just use divx5 then you obviously don't need XviD & Divx3.11 from codec pack. Also if you use dshow filter from DivX5 you don't need ffdshow. The rest should be ok (well you can diselect VobSub if you don't use subs)
