is it possible to rip certain scenes out of a dvd, maybe with preview window where you can select start and end of the scene?
purpose: i want to create a personal music dvd with my favorite music scenes. and i want to create a best-of-movie dvd, e. g. scenes from matrix, lord of the rings, etc.
by now it's only possible to rip movies or chapters, but what i want is to specify the start and the end of a scene and then rip it to harddisk.

This solution (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56986&highlight=rip+dvd+scenes/) was submitted by Oddyseus, our resident expert on DVD conversions here in Newbies. I believe you'll find it quite helpful.

thanx, but that didn't help.
what i need is a dvd-ripper which fits my needs.
the closest thing that comes to this, would be dvd-shrink with the dvd-join function. but that doesn't work with multiple dvds.

Try this one. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42996&highlight=rip+scenes/) TRILIGHT gives some advice concerning the ripping of individual cells within. You may also want to try running searches on "ripping cells", or some variation thereof. Maybe you'll get lucky and someong that knows exactly how to accomplish this will drop in, I don't. :)

Why don't you just rip one (or two if half the scene is on one and the rest on another) and cut the scene out with vdub. The process is a bit longer but it works.

You could use DVD Shrink Start/End cutting feature in Re-author mode. It also has a preview window. All you need to do is rip all our movie's Titleset files to your drive and open your IFO in DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5.

What exact part of the procedure doesn't fit your needs? I could elaborate more if u want to follow this path, that if I may say, is ideal for what u r looking for. Its easy, not messing up with avisynth etc.

Or even this way: Using DVDShrink as a Cutter (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57961#post348712) With the new beta5 you open one DVD in shrink, press re-author which opens another window. Then you trimm what you want. THEN in the ORIGINAL window you open another DVD from the HD, drag that into the re-author window and continue from there. You can compile any mixture of sources this way.

yup. that helped. THANX!!!!!
it's not perfect, but it helps. what i miss is to hear sound in the cut/preview window. unfortunately that seems to be a missing dvdshrink feature. hope it comes in the near future.
another missing feature: i dont want to rip every dvd do HD first. it would be great if you could re-author all your dvds with dvdshrink and when you press backup, then dvdshrink says you which dvd you should put in.
would be a nice feature.
thank you all for your answers :)
