Hi all
i have two questions about dolby surround prologic :
- How should i know if a downloaded movie is encoded in DPL ?
I have a dpl decoder/amplifier which is plugged in the soundcard line out.
- What player/filters should i use to play such movies ?
I
Thx forward.
PS : I have bsplayer, zoom player, media player classic and ac3filter installed, but i ve never heard sound clearly from the rear speakers.

The only way to find it out is to play the movie and to wait if a clear rear sound(s) will come. You can use any of your players to do it. You can also try some DPL encoded tests and run them to check if they sound OK. (Well there is a way to find if the sound is Dolby surround encoded, but I don't know any software that has implemented it.)

Thx DnA, that's the answer i was expecting.
Actually i have found that DPL and DPL II encoded tracks are simple stereo tracks that are passed to the dolby decoder which separates the channels by itself.
No need for any setup in the player software.
Anyway if you have a hardware dpl amplifier (or even if you don t have one: it can remap it to your speakers), you can use this filter.
http://matrix-mixer.sourceforge.net/
It is also bundled with the matroska playing pack.
http://matroska.free.fr/downloads/Matroska_Playback_Pack_0.5.exe
It has many purposes about sound mixing, and his usage is totaly transparent. It adds a MatrixMixer tab in the filter list in bsplayer and mpc, each time you play a stereo file.
(It has the same interface than the ac3filter, which shows up everytime an ac3 file.)
Then you can chose to have a 2.0 outpout and boost the surround signal. The dpl decoder will then extract a much louder rear signal for the surround speakers.
But this is just a way to upmix stereo to multichannel-dpl-like...
Maybe related to some of the "2->5 channels" threads that are on this forum, and probably the best way to do it in realtime without reencoding.
By the way, can someone link me to dpl test files ?

@daverc
Sorry, but I don't know where you can find such tests. You can convert .AC3 test -> 2 channel downmixed DPL or DPL2 .WAV file. You can use BeSweet to do this.
