Hello,
I've been searching for the 5.1 channel volume guide somewhere over the rainbow.
I was able to get a copy of CoolEdit Pro 2.1 before Adobe(#$!@*#@+#@%) bought them. I made two audio files for two movies
but am shooting in the dark as I mess around with the sound volumes.
Even though they say use ur ear as best judgement sometimes ur ear
cannot judge well after many hours of beating the bush.
Can someone please direct me to a page or post each channel volume
for proper 5.1 channel output?

A tip so you don't have to use your ear.... In Cool Edit you have the level meter at the bottom of the interface to show the volume as the audio plays. Look over the entire wav and find the greatest peak in the waveform (the largest spikes), this represents the loudest part of the audio. Play this section to see what reading the level meter gives you. If it is under 0.0 (peak volume) use that as a guide as to how loud you can make the entire wav. For example if the largest peak gives you a reading of say -2.1, then you can boost the volume by 2.1 to bring it to 0.0, the loudest volume while still avoiding clipping. To be safe I normally go slightly under the value it gives me (in this case say 2.0).
If you are encoding to DD 5.1 in the encoder for the dialnorm settings choose -31db, this level will not alter the volume of your adjusted files (and also turn Dynamic Range Control off completely).

Digg,
Thanks for your tips. I was reading what surround boy posted
to getting the levels previously by eye gauging as you mentioned
the bottom decibel meter. I always use that. it's just mixing
the right values so the sounds are distributed for best
effect of the 5.1 system.
I read somewhere in this forum awhile ago about the levels
to be used for best sound mixing, but I can't find it anymore.
Your quoute:

I'm not understanding what encoder your are referring to.
Are you referring to AC3Machine?
Look forward to some discussions about getting the best levels.
By the I found a denoiser "virtos denoiser" that works quite well
as it denoises in realtime unlike the noise reduction in cool edit.
If your into playing electric guitar the popup's look like a foot
pedal with dails and a graph to view the audio. it's pretty cool.
If you need somemore info you my private email.
Thanks again Digs.
