View Full Version : output file 177MB oversized using divx 3.11

i recently stopped using the sbc rippack and started using the xvid rippack. i encoded a flick using xvid and wanted to compare the same movie only with divx 3 with all the same settings so after the xvid rip was complete, i changed the codec from xvid to divx 3.11 in gknot, made sure all my settings were the same as the xvid rip and let it encode. the output file size was 877MB. i set it to 700, loaded the mp3 track i created, did everything right and it gave me this oversized file. i started from scratch and the same exact thing happened and got the exact same sized output file. is this because i'm using the xvid pack instead of the divx pack? i assume both packs have the same version of gknot. i dunno, i'm stumped. every xvid rip i've done outputs to exactly 700MB, i've done 3 so far since i stopped using nandub. any ideas?

Hi-

You'd better post the log file to see if we can find something in there to help figure it out.

it's time to reinstall all the codecs I guess. All divx3.11 size problems are usually due to codec configuration problems...

hakko504
11th September 2003, 12:33
Or framerate errors: post .avs and first 25 lines of the D2V (especially the framerate and field operation lines)

jggimi
11th September 2003, 14:06
I seem to recall that DivX 3 bitrate calculations use 1024 and DivX 5 / XviD use 1000. Could that be the reason for the size difference?

Hectic
11th September 2003, 16:06
pretty strange if you ask me. maybe some codecs are interfering with each other..i have xvid, divx 3.11 and divx 5 installed. it's not a huge deal i guess because i'm happy with xvid, i see a dramatic reduction (or none at all) in blockyness in my xvid files. i am somewhat of a perfectionist so the problem annoys me a little. there is a shitload of people here who use gknot for both divx and xvid rips i assume and couldn't find anyone who has the same problem when i did my search. odd..my mp3 file is 107MB btw which is wierd cause the file is 177MB oversized so even if gknot wasn't considering the audio track (which it was) there would still be an extra 70 MB of video data..anyone else notice a pattern here?

As I said: uninstall all the codecs and install them again...
then try encoding

Hectic

yes sir! course if i'm right that divx 3.11 and 5 are interfering with eachother, reinstalling them both wouldn't do any justice would it? and i'm not a fool so there's no reason to reply and say "just install divx 3.11 then" ahh, internet forums rule! don't take offense to my assholeness:devil:

jggimi
11th September 2003, 20:26
But there is no logical reason for "interference."

You've asked for advice. Re-installing DivX 3 as len0x advises will take you one or two minutes.

If that fails to solve the problem, then take the next step and...

follow Hakko's advice, in order to determine if framerate / field operations are an issue.

really? i thought that would take at least a couple days..hah kidding, kidding. anyway, the reason i was an ass in my last post was cause he seemed to be offended or something cause i made a comment about codecs after his reply..like i was trying to take credit for his idea or something and that's just lame. maybe i should buy him a box of tissue. anyhoo, i read something about codecs interferring, i think it concerned divx 3 and 4 though. the reason i haven't tried reinstalling anything yet is cause i'm a lazy bastard and it's not a high priority in my life right now although somewhat mind boggling..but not because i don't know it's an incredibly quick and simple task. how about me going to your mom's house and installing my codecs inside her hmm?:p

man i'm bored, nobody take anything i say seriously..seriously, it's nothing personal, i'm just trying to make people laugh by being an asscrack.

Yeah, I have something to say also. I originally asked for the log file because I, as jggimi did also later on, thought it might be a bitrate problem. But I checked out the figures given in the log and they're OK. So that's not it.

I don't know if len0x was offended by your followup to his suggestion, but I have to say that I was irritated. He probably gave the bit of advice that will solve your problem and you came back with a bunch of non sequitors. So he patiently gave it again, and you followed up with more drivel that not only wasn't funny, but was offensive also. He's the developer. Listen to him.

If you want to solve your problem, we're here to help. If you don't (and from the sound of it, you're in no hurry), then please take your act somewhere else. And be very careful how you word any response.

len0x
12th September 2003, 09:21
Why did you ask for help in the first place? Coz if you are "lazy bastard and it's not a high priority in your life right now" then you're wasting precious time of people here and then even complain that nobody takes you seriously... If you were not going to try suggested things you should've said that straight away.

If I knew what was exactly your problem, I would have said so. But I just happen to know (based on my experience and experience of other members of the forum) that what I suggested really helps in some cases - I never say anything just to keep up a conversation here...

Hectic

alright, first of all, i don't consider any internet forum tech support and don't get mad if someone doesn't give me an answer to my problem. the only thing that aggravated me was len0x's reply after i posted that i had divx 5 installed. i was making a suggestion and adding additional information to the problem which may have been able to provide an answer to the oversizing before i re-installed the codecs and attempted another coversion. instead of getting a reply that said something along the lines of "well, that doesn't seem like it could be the problem" or "that could very well be the problem then", i get something that sounds like a boss or someone ordering me what to do. and i wouldn't say it was a patient response, it actually seemed he was a bit annoyed. i realize he didn't tell me he was going to install his codecs inside my mom or anything (which deserves a little chuckle i think) but it was a pretty cold response..at least in my eyes. anyway, i have to admit, i didn't know he (you) created the program but if i did, i probably would have given some special treatment and not have been sarcastic or made any vulgar post just for the fact that gknot is a hellofalot quicker than doing everything manually and i'm grateful for that.

len0x
17th September 2003, 12:10
If you would have explained you position like you did in the previous post before instead of freaking out and making jokes which nobody else got - you would avoid getting strikes and creating unhealthy environment here...

Indeed I prefer getting straight to the point, and I don't like repeating something twice (that's why my second response seemed cold, but it still was a piece of advice).

P.S. My signature should be quite visible to everyone, so it's worth checking out to whom you're talking to :)

Hectic
17th September 2003, 14:19
ok, sorry..friends?:p as far as that joke went...i was referring to sperm as my codecs, but again, i was just kidding. insults about people's moms are lame..especially if you don't know their mom. it was a dumb joke and was made for my own personal amusment, sorry man.

No hard feelings from me.

Back to the topic - did you manage to solve your problem ?

Hectic
17th September 2003, 19:41
eh, i haven't tried yet. xvid is great, however when i first intalled the rippack, output files were exactly what i set the target as, now for some reason they're 5 MB too big. lemme guess, re-install the codec?:p thanks for the help by the way.
