How long does it take to:
A: Convert AVI to SVCD
B: Convert AVI to VCD
C: Convert DVD to SVCD
D: convert DVD to VCD

I tried C, and it took me over 10 hours... is this normal? my computer specs:

Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 2.53GHz
512 ram
80 gb harddrive
geforce 4 ti 4200
Windows XP Pro
48x/10x/48x CD-RW Drive and 16x drive

Quality encoding takes time.

Use simpleresize (for speed) when making SVCD's

I think DVD2SVCD is factory set in the encoder tab (for Cinemacraft encoder) to 4 pass VBR, you can try 3 pass to cut down the time a bit. You may lose a little quality if the bitrate is low.

Shut down everything that may be running in the background on your computer, that might speed things up a bit.

PAL encodes slower than NTSC.

If you were backing up Lawerence of Arabia 10 hours is pretty good!!!
