Yeah, I'm that frustrated.. well, not really frustrated but I just can't seem to latch onto a thread that thoroughly explains step by step what I need which is:

How do I create a 5.1 mix CD from 6 wav files using BeSweet?

I know the files need to be converted to AC3, but it's the process of doing so that I need help on.

Please e-mail me at veech@earthlink.net if you are willing to help me step by step through this apparently very simple process. I don't want to waste forum bandwidth, but would want to be able to e-mail you questions as they arise. I imagine we could wrap it within 3 or 4 days, I'm pretty computer savvy but this one has me flummoxed. Yes, I'm willing to offer say, $20 to someone via PayPal who would be willing to take their time with me. It's worth it to me.

One caveat, I do not own SurCode, so if it cannot be done without Surcode (or any other high-priced software) then let me know, maybe that's the missing piece? Otherwise, please contact me and give a hand :)

thanks to all,

Veech

Well Veech, if you can't get besweet to do it you porbably just don't have the ac3enc.dll installed. But really I don't think there are any free full-featured ac3 encoders; someone correct me if I'm wrong. ac3enc for besweet doesn't really have any options, has problems getting the volume right and doesn't do BSI dynamic range compression. Many people like softencode. It is pretty self explanitory. If you are not already an owner of this then you have a problem. It is no longer sold. Some people feel that this means it is not really illegal to obtain copies. I seriously doubt that's true especially since the company still sells newer better, expensive software to do the same thing. So if you wanted it you would have to find a legal way to obtain it(maybe buy a used original) or buy the newer one, ACID. So that should pretty much be the end of the discussion here on obtaining softencode I think. But if you have it, it's pretty simple to use and seems to have enough features.

ok, well, then that makes sense.. but damn, softencode (when it was available) went for $900, Acid + the 5.1 plug-in goes for about $800, good grief! So I need the ac3enc.dll to make this all work, eh? Is there a basic AC3 encoder available in the sub-$200 range that would do the trick? I could afford that, but computer upgrade is taking most of my coin.. or is there any AC3 encoder bundled with any new computer product, like a DVD burner, that anyone knows of? If so, I need a DVD burner, that might help as well.

Stunned at the prices..

thanks again..

I don't know anything about that link. The ac3enc pulgin can be found at dspguru.doom9.net under the plugins tab.

@ Veech

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're looking to encode 6 wavs to AC3. A search would have found an old thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49118&highlight=six+wav+to+ac3) on this subject, but here you go: To encode AC3 for free with BeSweet, you'll need (as mentioned) ac3enc.dll (http://dspguru.notrace.dk/BS_ac3enc.zip) in your besweet directory. (You should be using the latest beta). Then simply open up notepad and list your 6 wav's in the following order:

Front left.wav
Center channel.wav
Front right.wav
Surround left.wav
Surround right.wav
LFE.wav

And save the file as a *.mux file. Then use besweet as follows:

besweet.exe -core ( -input "infile.mux" -output "audio.ac3" -6ch ) -ac3enc ( -b 448 )

Substituting real filenames and whatever bitrate you want to use. Many people on this board will tell you that ac3enc is 'vastly inferior' to the payware encoders, and although I may be biased towards freeware, I use it all the time and have no complaints. hth,

Thanks Kpex and Nuked.. yeah, I want to create a 5.1 mix from 6 wav files which means creating an AC3 file. I'll try ac3enc first before shelling out hundreds of dollars for pasyware encoders.. if it works then hallelujah!!
