After a long time of searching, I found a place on the net that had the DVD's of the original 3 starwars movies!
I had so many friends of mine tell me they didn't exist, but I guess they do!
These have the new special added scenes, and CGI effects on them like in the re-release in theatres.

Any idea if these are legit, or if they're just converted from laserdisc to dvd? I watched them so far, and the quality is pretty decent for a 1997 dvd (can't expect the best from 1997 :)

anyone else have these dvd's as well? I'm just wondering if my friends are on crack, and that these are readily sold everywhere, or if they're right, and these are pretty rare (or out of print)

There are no official DVD releases of the triology. What you have are either laserdisk or VHS transferred to DVD. There are something like 15 different versions, from varying sources and with varying extra content. I don't know the legality of these disks or whether they are considered bootlegs or not, but in my opinion, no they are not legit, in the sense that the DVD you have was never released by Lucasfilm.

that's what I thought as well. that's alright, i'm still very happy I have them now anyway. I've always wanted to own these movies, but didn't feel like forking out money for VHS tapes in this day and age :)
