Hello everybody!

Made a small NSIS installer for Gabest's MatroskaSplitter DirectShow filter.
I know there's a matroska pack but I just wanted to have a simple installer for MatroskaSplitter in which I could choose to install the normal or the unicode version...
I managed to implement OS detection and the installer automatically suggests which version should be installed.

What it does :
- Detects the OS and suggests the right version
- Copies the MatroskaSplitter.ax in the Windows system directory
- and registers it

Here's the link for the actual version :
MatroskaSplitter_20030829.exe (http://niborvisions.gmxhome.de/MatroskaSplitter_20030829.exe)

If you try it, tell me if you like it, or if it even works ;) (Tested it on WinXP and Win98)

-= Nibor =-

PS: It's my first NSIS installer so don't be too hard :)

Short question: What's the reason that gabest isn't using installers anymore? Before he went to sourceforge he used installers... I searched a bit but couldn't find a statement/reason. Is it to release stuff earlier?

Apart from that: good work!

another reason could be to allow quick register/unregister and for ppl like me who don't like to copy stuff into system32 but prefer to have a seperate DSfilter directoy
...dunno but i think its quite convinent, altho i agree many ppl were maybe served better if he at least included a short comment on how one installs a DSfilter :p

Hmmm, maybe Gabest is just lazy ;)
*lol* Gabest and lazy, two words that don't fit together :p
Maybe he wanted others to do the installers for him...
Or he wanted his fancy stuff only for people who know how to register filters, hehe

I could make both, installing it in system directory and the possibility to choose a specific install location, and in this case, an unistaller could also be included!
But then the installer would not be as 'small' as I wanted it, you would have to click on a button more than 3 times :D
Maybe I'll try this later and see if I like it :)

I was also thinking about doing an installer for the DSfilters, since i get bored always registering the filters the hardway... Ill check for that as soon as i get back home at the end of september. I'll let u know then...

- Nibor - this rocks :D
it was just what i needed. no more cpu-killing because of unicode subs :)

well, i had already installed it the hard way, but this makes it easier to re-install someday ;)

btw, could you add uninstall supprt for the installer, so that when it see's you already have one version of VSFilter installed, it ask if you want to remove that one first and then continues to install this one.
cause i just tried to install this, and it didnt understand i had already installed it :D

btw, My name is also Robin ;)

First of all, thanks, it's cool to see that I could make somebody happy with my small work :D

Ok, made a new 'version' of VSFilter :)
It now includes an uninstaller and it detects if a version is already installed and removes it!
Works simple, if VSFilter.dll in system dir exists, it's unregistered and deleted!

Additionally you can uninstall it in 'Add/Remove Programs' (or 'Software')...

Get it here (http://niborvisions.gmxhome.de/VSFilter_20030829.exe)!

Oh my god!!!! You discovered my secret identity!! You know to much!!
I'm no longer safe from the evil shadows of my darkest enemy!! ;) :p
Hehe, but are you male or female? In my country it's a name for boys but in England / America it's a name for girls AFAIK :)

Bye!

Perhaps you could enable the XP look :D I think it looks better that way and IIRC it doesn't make the package bigger ;)

Nice work :)

O/T:
Yeah, I'm a guy to.
Here in sweden both girls and boys are named Robin.
But I think of men like Robin Hood and Robin in Batman when I hear Robin,
not particularely female ;)

*lol* you've got a point....
But what about Robin Williams for example? Oh, forgot, "Mrs. Doubtfire" :D ;)

To post something on topic too:
I will make MatroskaSplitter installer like the VSFilter, with uninstaller stuff and so on, when I've got the time :)

C ya!

I asked Nibor now via PM if he would like to join the team and care about keeping all the installers updated. Hope he says yes, we really need somebody looking into this job :). This job requires to be on IRC quite often, so you know whats going on.

Robin Hood wore pants or armour, like anyone else during that period.
And Robin in Batman wore latex at most, but definitely not tights.
(the actors in the live-action variants and/or in the theater perfomances mightve had tights, but that doesnt mean the character does)

Robert of Locksley. cool character.
bow and arrow, swordfights, cool ideology.

I dont know how to make this post on topic.
Maybe Robin Hood couldve used this installer.
to steal from the rich and give to the poor..
no thats Nibor ;)

Socks evolved into stockings in 12th century Europe. Breeches worn by men became close fitting, reaching from the waist to the foot like modern tights.

Pretty sure that Robin Hood is supposedly from around that time.

As for Robin in Batman, which one are you refering to? Because the recent movies don't count.

and as i said, i dont refer to the Robin in the movies or in any plays. i mean the original character, as told in the comics and books.
