Hi,
we can, thanks to mkvmerge, mux rv9, ea8 and ssa into a mkv container.
But we can't demux it, do we?
mkvextract only handle fourcc, and with graphedit+ .ax filter from guliverkli, I can't use the filewriter.
Any idea?
thanks

Real codecs can't be demuxed from matroska, and can't be remuxed in matroska.

Sirber meant Real -> Matroska -> Real does not work, just Real -> Matroska. SSA is also not demuxable.

You got it right Animaniac :D
Matroska is as secure as a bank :)

Ohh ohh. Yeah, it'd be nice if we could have gotten a realmediamuxer with the splitter, but then who needs it when you have matroska :D

It happened, that i had to demux DV encoded stuff from whatever container to add/replace an audio track, and i would be frustrated if i could'nt. I was on my way to mux real audio in matroska ('cause i do add comments track on my DV footage...), so i guess i wont process that way anymore. :(
Yes, a realmediamuxer would be great!

yep, me too, that's the point, need to correct some subs, etc....
Matroska is as secure as a bank
that's not the purpose of a container
I think that all past project had tried to make evdry container "reversible" (like ogm does). It's also an insurance that, if the project is abandoned, you can always revert to something else.....
But this is only my point (in a very bad english) :D

The container is reversible, but not for Real Media content :)

SSA subtitles can be demuxed very easily using the latest version of mkvextract from http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/. Former versions had a timecode problem... After demuxing, open the ssa file with SubResync and save as ssa non-unicode.

So, it's not reversible !! ;)
No way? With graphedit too?
Strange, we can mux but not demux.......
Will there futur version with this possiblity?

Some facts.
- mkvMERGE can read Matroska files containing SSA/ASS, RV*, RA*.
- mkvEXTRACT can extract SSA/ASS from Matroska files into 'normal' SSA/ASS files.
- mkvEXTRACT cannot extract RV* or RA* at the moment, but I might add that in the future. It's definitely not impossible to do, it's just not high on my TODO list.
For the case that you want to make some small changes to subtitle tracks the way to go would be:
1) Use mkvextract to extract the subtitle tracks in question.
2) Fix the files.
3) Use mkvmerge with the original Matroska file and the fixed subtitle files as inputs. Make sure mkvmerge does not copy the old 'unfixed' subtitle tracks from the Matroska file. Check mkvmerge's documentation on how to do that (or use the new GUI coming with v0.7.0 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55637&goto=lastpost)).

i wonder one thing
you can take a rmvb and with realmedia splitter mux it into a matroska file no?
can you, in graphedit
use realmediasplitter to avi muxer and not matroska muxer to convert rmvb to avi uncompressed??
the realmediasplitter provide a video flux and an audio flux no?
