I am planning to build a PC with the intention to use it mainly for DVD and mini DV (home video) backup. I know that there is some advise on the "basics" page, but now need more specific advise.
I wondered if anyone knew (from experience perhaps?) a very good (and good value if poss) motherboard and graphics card?
(I am told that lots of memory and front end bus speed are especially important, as well as processor speed)
Thanks!

Well, personally would just but a cheapo video card (with TV out) and get yourself an Xcard for DVD playback c/w JovePlayer GUI. This is what I do!

If you check out my 'Media PC' info at the bottom of this post, you will see that the PC's processing power is not the fastest.

And the DVD drive is now connected to the PC using USB2. I'm even thinking about connecting my DVD burner using USB2 as well!

Cheers and welcome to the forum!

Thank you SeeMoreDigital,
This makes me think that I could upgrade my current PC.
I shall look into Xcards and JovePlayer as I know nothing about them yet.
Thanks again.
