Hi,

I have a VHS tape that consists of 20 music videos. Each video being roughly 5 minutes in length. I would like to convert this tape over to DVD and set up the menus so each video is listed separately and can be accessed via the menu screens.

I first created separate MPEG2 files for each video and proceeded to author the DVD using Workshop. The video quality and menu navigating turned out great. The only problem being there is an unusually long delay between when a video is selected in the menu screen and when the actual video starts. I've noticed that the deeper I get into the menu screens, the longer the delay. For example, if I select a video from the first menu screen, the video plays almost instantly. If I select a video on the last menu screen, it takes almost 30 seconds before the corresponding video starts to play.

I examined the structure of the finished DVD and noticed that each separate music video clip was given a separate title, with each title consisting of a single chapter that was the video clip itself. Therefore, there were 20 titles and chapters. Is this structuring the cause of the delay? Would it be more efficient to have just a single title that consists of 20 chapters (one for each separate video clip)?

Thanks.

I've never created a DVD with that many titles, but a delay of 30 secs does not seem right. Maybe try using the title button on your remote and see how long it takes to load up title 20 after pressing the button.

Don't know whether or not creating a single title with 20 chapters would make a difference, but one problem is that the video/audio files have to be joined. That can introduce sync issues etc. So such an approach has its own annoyances.

I did back-up of DVD with 96 titles and it worked fine. So in my opinion number of titles doesn´t affect accessing speed. I would prefer one title with many PGCs but again number of titles shouldn´t cause these troubles .

I've noticed that on most DVD it takes longer to start the extras (on my standalone). Maybe because they are close to the outer edge of the disc and the seek time is longer?
