View Full Version : Free tool for the most simple DVD authoring possible

Hi,

I already was at doom9.org's DVD authoring guides, but it seems that even the basic dvd authoring guides deal with shareware/commercial software, and they also involve making menues, chapters etc.

But I want to do a very simple task, so I don't want to spend any money for this if possible: I just want to put two mpeg2 videos (each one only with one mp2 audio track) on the DVD, it shouldn't have any menues etc. It should just play the 1st video when the DVD is inserted, and after that, it should play the second one. The authoring tool should output the vob/ifo/bup files to a folder on my harddisk, so i can preview them in windvd and burn them with nero.

Is there a tool that is freeware/oss and that can do this? (in a way that is not TOO complicated)

Thanks for any answers.

Well its IfoEdit for you then.
Its not all that simple but its worth learning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but IfoEdit's authoring only supports a single movie, so you'll need to join the video and audio streams before authoring, or otherwise create 2 x DVD projects and somehow merge them (maybe use ifoedit to write new ifos, dunno).

Personally I think DVDMaestro is great for what you want, it's wonderful for simple tasks. Rather expensive though :)

hehe, that's funny. I'm just coming back to ask, because that was the problem I ran into.

This is what I did: I created two dvd projects with ifo edit, then I removed the video manager from both of them, renamed all the files from one dvd to VTS_02_X.* and copied them to the folder of the first movie.

Then I used DVDFab to create a new Video manager.

(because I read this in a doom9 dvdfab guide:
Create video madnager will create the required VIDEO_TS.* files if you only have a set of VTS_0x_y.* files. You can use this feature to create your own trailer DVD based on VOB files you have downloaded from the Internet, just as an example.)

So I tested to play the dvd in windvd and it's basically working, but after the 1st movie is played, windvd just stops and does nothing. (i can select title 2 manually though) But I want it to play the 2nd title directly after the 1st one.

So I guess I have to set a "Go to title 2 after playing"-Flag or something like that in one of the IFO files. How can I do this using IfoEdit?

DVDshrink should now be able to read this structure.
1. Go in to Re-Author mode and drag all films into the window.
2. Set to NO compression and hit Backup.

The output has all the commands neccessary to play all titles in a row.
It just stops after the last one.

ah, thanks. worked perfectly (at least when previewing in windvd). I'm going to burn it and test it in my standalone now.

Ok, I tested it in my standalone, and it works, too. Thanks for your help!

another small dumb question: can i demux the vob's later, so that i get m2v and mp2 files again. (i ask this because i'm not sure if i can delete the m2v/mp2 source files from my harddisk)
