Hi,
I have some questions about matroska container.
1) Does it already have error protection (like OGM) or it still a future implementation?
2) To mux chapters into a matroska file, what format must the text file have? the OGM chapter structure is good? I've used virtualdub 1.5.4.1 to mux it, but still don't see it when i play it on Media player classic 6.4.6.0 that is supossed to support it.
3) What kind of files can be attached and how can it be use?
Thanks a lot

Hi jkwarras,
1. Neither OGM or MKV currently have error protection; they are both error resilient, meaning they can tolerate missing or corrupt data more than formats such as avi. True error protection is planned for MKV in the future, I'm not sure if it's in the plans for OGM.
2. OGM chapter structure is the currently used one, again, in the future IIRC a more enhanced chapter format is planned. If your muxing doesn't work with VdubMod, try MkvMerge, I've never had any problems with it and chapters playing back correctly.
3. Almost any type of file can be attached, check out the MKVMerge documentation (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvmerge.html#ATTACHMENTS) for more information.
Someone from the MKV or OGM team please do correct any mistakes I may have made in the above.

I doubt error correction will ever be in Ogg proper, anymore than the kitchen sink (I fully expect the kitchen sink to make it into Matroska one day though ;). In principle nothing is stopping anyone from doing it with Ogg, just like you can do reliable communication with IP ... but I think there is not enough demand for a developer to stand up and do it.

If kitchen sinks will prove useful for video encoding, it maybe will ;) ....

?? .... why shouldnt there be enough demand for additional error correction, especially when burning the files as mode2 form2 discs ? you know anything we havent been thinking of yet ??
