Hey ppl
I just bought a firewire card from www.dabs.com and when i tired to install it it kept making my graphics card not respond with the monitor. once i took the firewire card out everything was fine. I dont have another pci slot so i cant try it anywhere else.
If anyone has any ideas on helping that wod be great. thanks.

hi we would need some more info before we can help
firstly WHICH card provide a link
secondly what os do u have if 2k do u have SP4 and if XP do you have SP1 cos they fixed a lot of probs to do with firewire and usb2 in those two packs
did it come with any drivers (doubtful but!!!)
lastly have u tried moving something else to that free pci slot and checking if it works ie soundcard etc and then putting the firewire card in the slot which u know already works

I'm on xp, and it didn't come with any drivers :(
I havent tried switching any ports around because i dont want to cause any problems :S, but it may be the only way.

Its looks like your card cause major resource reassignments which your system fails to handle correctly (any SB Life Cards installed?), I'd suggest you to try this simple procedure which might help you to fix this problem (do not fear to try it, you can't possible ruin anything :P (well, unless you're trying real hard ;))
Open your computer Case and short the Clear CMOS jumper(move it back)
Enter MB BIOS
PnP OS=YES
IRQ Assignments=Auto
BIOS Cacheable Memory=Disable
Video Cacheable Memory=Disable
Assign IRQ to AGP=Enabled
COM:1 Port=Disabled /COM:2 Port=Disabled
(Depending on your BIOS version some options might look differently/missing)
Install Your FireWire card back on the LAST PCI slot on your motherboard. (Away from the AGP Slot)

so i take it that your PCI slot was the one that was faulty!!
