Hi!
I converted a film with DVD2SVCD. My problem is that there are some scenes in the film, where they speak a unknown language. On the original DVD subtitles appear for these scenes, but not on my SVCD.
Is it necessary to convert the whole subtitles, and then blend them on and off when watching it or does somebody have a better idea?
Thanks for your help!

The subtitles you are talking about are a separate stream.
You need to enable rip subtitles on DVD2SVCD's subtitle tab. I recommend you select permanent subs(they get written into the video stream).
With subs enabled when you start DVD2SVCD you will get the chance to preview and choose which stream. With my english language type DVD's there are often two english sub streams, one like you describe and one with every word spoken subtitled. You can click the next sub button and have a look at a few subs and choose the appropriate stream.
Dont worry about the colours or appearance of the subs when you're choosing etc. just leave it (at least the firs time).

I tried this with the SVCD-subtitle option in the DVD2SVCD register, and not the permanent sub-titles.
My problem is now that either with my DVD-Player nor with WinDVD I cannot select the Subtitles.
I there any solution without using permanent subtitles?

None that I've found.
I'm happy enough to use permanents for this type of thing(the main problem is forgetting them and have to do the whole SVCD again).
You should give the search button a workout, I seem to remember a lot of people having SVCD subtitle problems(it's pretty important if there is no audio in your preferred language), maybe some brainy types managed to resolve it.
It sounds like a lot of players(including mine) just won't display subs on SVCD's.

I dont know of any dvd player under windows which plays SVCD subs.
There are some DVD decks which play SVCD subs, but they are few.
btw, many DVD decks can actualy play CVD subs, so give CVD subs a try.

CVD doesn`t work either.
I managed to rip only the subtitles for the scenes where they are really neeeded, so permanent subtitles are ok.
But how can I join the subtitle with the mpeg file?
Does somebody now some software and which foramt must the subtitle have?
P.S: I ripped the subtitle with SubRip and saved it as bmp files with a sst file.

dvd2svcd should do it for you. if you enable subtitles in the proper
tab menu, then dvd2svcd will rip them and enbed them in the movie.
