"I was reading on the web somewhere that Pinnacle is preparing to release a new version of InstantCopy. I wanted to know if this is true or if just untrue rumors? Any betas? Also any information whether this will be a free upgrade to current InstantCopy 7 owners or will a discount be provided to us or will we have to buy the whole new version? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

This is a response directly from Pinnacle Systems themselves:

"We will have a new version coming out, but there will not be any external beta to my knowledge.

I don't think we have determined yet how possible upgrades from the current version will work out yet.

Apparently the version that is floating around must be a hacked version according to this response since he said no beta. But at least we know that there will be a newer version higher than v7.0x

correct...read a couple of locked threads and you'd come to the same conclusion.

In other Boards it was claimed that at an online purchase this version stood for Download for a short time (german site)?!
It seems to be an international version and completely ready.

must've been a beta download meant for a limited number of beta testers. I've been in touch with Pinnacle and was told that an official announcement is forthcoming, but until that point they won't release any information reagarding the new version.
Please note that since it's a closed beta, you cannot ask or discuss it on this board. Those who are in the beta program know this, and whoever else might have it might want to have a look at rule6 before posting anything about the new version.

"I would like you to wait with any comments/discussions about InstantCopy 8 in the forums until the press release has come out."

therefore no more comments till an official announcement comes out or it'll be violating rule#6 like doom9 mentioned.

alright, here's the final deal:
The line quoted by mrbass applies to those of you who are part of the beta group and myself. Meaning those people cannot give you any information about the upcoming release. Anyone breaking this agreement will probably loose their beta tester status and will certainly loose my respect because I can't stand people who don't stand by their word and release stuff before they're supposed to (it doesn't matter if it concerns a commercial company or some freeware operation.. a deal is a deal).
As for the rest of you, you can discuss the upcoming release but be wary of the forum rules. If you have a very intricate knowledge about the new version, it is likely that you have your hands on an illegitimate copy, and we'll deal with you the same way we deal with anyone trying to discuss their illegitimate copy of a movie or software.
Also, please note that while a healthy curiousity is nothing to be ashamed off, the constant buzz surrounding other upcoming software, most notably dvd shrink, is seriously getting on many people's nerves, so keep that in mind. There can be too much speculation, bickering, requests, etc.

At cdfreaks.com there is an article about InstantCopy 8.0:

hm, it seems like there hasn't change that much.
most of us surely want to edit ifo files before burning.
dvdmagic is now official, well ...

The article doesn't really tell much. I would like to know how accurate sizing is? Is the quality the same, better, than IC7, in high quality mode?
I do like burning to a virtual drive, where movies are playable. I hated that proprietary .pdi crap. Movie only is a nice feature, since I only do the movies. I have no interst in any of the other stuff. Director's commentary, ads for upcoming movies etc.

J French from Pinnacle stated on Aug 18:
"There is an InstantCopy 8 that should be in the retail market in the next couple weeks. I don't think that it is available quite yet."

Isn't that weird they don't know when their own product is being released?

lrosado

Well it does state the slower method gives the same quality that we know of, the faster speed will give same quality as the competitors, eg DVD Shrink, DVDXCOPYEXPRESS, DVD2ONE.....

Thats great, so you can mix it and will get the best of both :D
Speed for the Extras and quality for the Film!

@schlaufer

Thanx for the pinnacle info-page:

Good news for all users of IC7:
There will be upgrades available, but it doesn't say, if they will be for free or you have to pay for them.

@MackemX I've had a play at it and the undersizing issue still seems to be there. I was hoping it would be fixed in this version.

And here for all non german: ;)

• InstantDrive: complete CDs und DVDs can be directly and fast copied on this virtuell drive which resists on the harddisk. These „Disk-Images“

Maybe not the best translation , but beats bablefish

"@MackemX I've had a play at it and the undersizing issue still seems to be there. I was hoping it would be fixed in this version."

Since it's variable rate compression they probably would have to go 2 pass to get it right. I guess for marketing reasons they don't want to do that.

Undersizing is still there and it still crashes on black screens....

Looks like the same ol' Pinnacle.. just add a feature or two (maybe they will work) and add a fancy GUI and sell it as a new product.

Stick with Shrink.

Well that's a real shame if the final release works that way, I mean v7 has only been out a matter of months and they never fixed half the bugs with that and instead offer us v8 a few months later after paying for a flawed product in the first place. What Pinnacle do that to us? Never!

Let's just wait and see though. ;)

Pinnacle must have hired ex Microsoft Engineers to program their software...!

I would hate to think they will charge for the upgrade, but looking at that quote above you think they would have mentioned the cost of the upgrade if there actually was going to be one

so at the minute I would take that they are offering a free upgrade and if they are it will improve the customer care relationship

has someone not emailed them about it yet?

you can use the virtual drive as the destination without having to even mount the PDI as it does it automatically so you dont have to mess on with the PDI

you still have to copy the files across to edit them but it doesnt take long if its from drive to drive (about 6 mins for me) and I would be using IFOEdit to copy them anyway if I was editing so I would just copy the remaining files I didn't modify

its still better than version 7 and taking 15 minutes to extract the files to be able to even modify them

I asked Pinnacle about having an output to folders option but no joy. It depends on how many people would actually like that feature and why and how hard it would be to implement

AS long as we do not promote or share the illegal copy, i do not see why we cannot report about it.

AS long as we do not promote or share the illegal copy, i do not see why we cannot report about it.Because you'd be admitting that you own an illegal copy, which would be interpreted by the BSA as this site being a meeting place for software pirates. While you have the luxury of only taking care of your interests, it is not you copyright holders will come after, and you do not have to balance the interest of 35 thousand people.

For some more info about IC8 keep watching the newspage..
