View Full Version : Rather disturbing speed results from Ritek G04

I got these results from two Ritek G04's that I picked up from rima.com.
They seem to play fine in my standalone though. But this scares me.

This one I burned at 2x hoping it would help, but it actually came out worse!! I'm using NEC 1300A with herier's firmware

I forgot to validate my own attachment :)
Ok its fixed now in the original post.
Since then I've upgraded the firmware to 106 (official), and I did a 4x burn. The results were a lot better, though still a bit depressing. The speed is constantly increasing throughout but towards the latter part of the disk after 3+ gigs or so, the speed goes up and down quite a bit. no errors on this last test though, but still bothers me.
I'll post one of those results later.
I haven't checked my G03's yet to see if they also exhibit this same thing with DVDInfo.

That graph looks almost identicle to my results when I am burning with my pioneer drive and the CPU hits 100% utilization. Even if the buffer is 100% full, I get burn errors. It is the only burner I have ever had to do it (including others on this system). I always get a lovely reminder about this when I set up a burn, and forget to turn my ftp off, and a hit spikes CPU usage for a second:( I don't know if I am the only one with this expirence, but I thought I would share it since it took me quite a while, and ~25 coasters, to figure it out on my own considering no buffer underuns (or even buffer less then 95%) ever occured.

Even odder, this ONLY happens with my RitekG04's. My DVDPro and Tayio Yuden discs do not have this problem. I wonder if maybe the firmware is doing something a bit weird.

That is rather interesting....I might have been doing stuff on the computer while it was burning that. I don't remember...hmmm

Arghh. What an uggly result for a ritekG04. It looks like a Princo 1X burned @2X !

I assume you checked with ADvinfo and it's really a Ritek G04.

2/ did you try in another burner, just to check if it comes from your configuration or from the disk itself.

And yes, from me testing, you got better burn @4X than 2X. It come from the fact 2X is not really a standard, only implemented as-it-can-be by manufacturers like pionner and others.

Ok,
I am fairly sure they're RITEK since it says RIDATA in the hub and DVDinfo says its G04 and DVDDEcryptor says its G04

I can't run ADVDinfo, it stopped working when I added a Pioneer DVD-ROM drive in my system. Never found the problem and noone here could help :(

I recently upgraded the firmware on my NEC1300a to 105v11 from herrer's web site. I got this result with the same spindle of Ritek's
