Greets to all,

I have come upon a problem. I have a 1 min clip in mpeg4 slow motion, 720x480, 18504k. I resized it to 512x380 and it gave me an output file of 18488k. I was under the impression that if you resize a clip it make the video file size smaller. But it wasn't really the case. Can anybody tell me why and what I'am not doing. I also made one at 320x240 and the file size was 18466k.

Thanks

What compression / codec and at what setting are you compressing too?
You're target file probably does
a) not use the same codec
b) has a higher bit-rate then the source material
c) a&b

In order to reduce file size you should rather run it through a 2 pass encode using XviD / DivX and specify the new file-size in the 2nd pass.

if you want smaller filesizes you can not simply decrease the AR but also have to decrease the bitrate

if you want to ensure your bitrate isn't to high or to low make a compressibility test

The source file is X-Vid Mpeg 4 codec. The output is divx 5.0.2.

I tried lowering the bitrate but it still gives a bigger output file size. As for the two pass encoding. How do I do this with virtual dub?

Thanks.. your help is greatly apreciated!
