ok, when i try to backup the pianist, i rip it first, then compress it with dvdshrink. everything looked great, so i burned it over with recordnow max.
when i try to play it in the dvd player, the last 5-7 minutes of the movie are chopping, showing "the blocks". what is up with that? i can't even watch the last part of the movie. is there a reason why? i do not think i compressed it too much--the movie was compressed about 40%. do you think it is because the movie was too long (2hr. 30 min)? what can i do to prevent this from happening again?
thanks.

I had similar problems with cheeper media. I was using some princo and Ritek and had same types of issues. Once I purchase better media the problem went away.

isn't ritek decent media? that's what i thought. and plus, it only happens a couple of times out of 100.

Yes, Ritek is definitely better media than say Princo. But it might not be as high quality as true TDK, or Verbatum. I've seen the same problem as you, jumpy a little at the very end of a 4.3gb burn, but not too often. I've even seen it on Pioneer media.
For the price difference between Ritek and Verbatum/TDK, I'll live with occassion burps - especially when they are the exception, not the norm.

I've burned a ton of movies on ritek and rarely seen those problems....I only saw it when I bought primedisc which are rebadged ritek's. when i buy generic ritek's from rima.com they dont' have problems like this.
my Sony is very finicky about bad media, for the longest time I thought my Sony was incapable of playing movies greater than 3.96 gigs, turns out it was just bad media which usually shows up towards the end of a movie!

Are the TDK dvd-r or +r REALLY true TDK's? I got 300 of the dvd-r's from my boss as a gift and want to know if they are worth getting when I deplete the current stock.

Are they in generic packaging or retail TDK packaging? I would be surprised if best buy was selling counterfeit TDK discs

They are in 100 pack spindle but they are labeled with the TDK logo. So I hope they are real, I was just wondering because sometimes I get skips and freezes, not often but sometimes.

run DVDinfo on them and see what it says.
it would be interesting if TDK was using someone else to make their DVD's now
