I've read FAQs and used search. Found nothing.
The problem is - i can't extract ac3 sound from a vob (i used smart ripper to get the vob-files on my HDD).
I did everything what is described:
From the Audio menu:
dolby digital - Demux all tracks
channel format - auto select (i used dolby digital as well - it didn't help).
I've tride it in different ways - no result.
It doesn't want to extract sound. Moreover - i already extracted ac3 sound before. now i'm doing the same but get no result.
Please tell me what the problem is in.
ps i'm so frustrated - i've wasted all night and couldn't succeed.

try demuxing the stream during ripping process, use dvddecryptor in ifo mode and stream proccessing, if already on your hard drive ripped then use smartripper and browse to where the files are.

You completely sure there is AC3 audio in the vobs? Try v1.77.3 and see if there is DTS audio in there. Someone also reported a problem with 6ch PCM audio quite recently.

I've downloaded dvd2avi 1.77.3
selected "demux all tracks" - but again i get nothing!
when i ripped the dvd with smartRipper it managed to extract ac3 sound. why can't i do it with a separate vob? Is it possible there is no sound in a vob? I think no.
What should I do now?
Neither program wants to extract sound (I used vStrip and others).

I couldn't make SmartRipper demux files on my hdd It is looking for either a dvd-drive or a video_ts folder on the hdd. It doesn't want to work with a stand-alone vob.

Let's go for the heavy artillery. Get bbTools (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/bbtool19.zip) and unzip it to your windows directory. Then start a command prompt (start->run cmd) and type the following:
bbdmux <path>\file.vob > bbresult.txt
This will take a little while to run, a few minutes is common. This will depend mostly on the speed of your HD's and the size of the vob. When it is ready, open bbresult.txt in a text editor, and look if it has found an audio stream. If you are unsure, post the contents of bbresult.txt here and I'll be able to help you.

Here is what the bbtools wrote:
File vts_01_1.vob is an MPEG-2 Program Stream
Found stream id 0xE0 = Video Stream 0
Found stream id 0xBE = Padding Stream
Found stream id 0xBD = Private Stream 1, substream 0x20, Subpicture stream 0
Summary:
MPEG Packs = 420577
Private Stream 1 packets = 733, total bytes = 1145133
Subpicture stream 0 packets = 733, total bytes = 1144400
Padding Stream packets = 3332, total bytes = 3387273
Video stream 0 packets = 419844, total bytes = 847084096
I'm not familiar with what padding streams and private streams mean.
hope u'll explain to me what this program is saying about.
ps thanks for trying to help me
pps It's my first time when i'm trying to convert from dvd to divx. I use Gordian Knot. Since i'm not familiar with the program yet i'm trying to encode 1 vob and see the result. Actually, i have ac3 sound of the movie (I extracted it by means of SmartRipper). But i don't wanna waste my time by encoding the whole movie and than make sure the quality is low. That's why i wanna test it on 1 vob. And i was very surprised (in the bad sense of the word) when i couldn't get sound from a stand-alone vob-file.

OK, I think I know what happened: When you used smartripper to extract the vob's, you had stream processing enabled. That way the sound ended up in one file and the video in another, the new vob, and that's why DVD2AVI can't find anything in the vob.
A padding stream is an empty stream used to keep the total bitrate at a reasonable level, and not vary too much from moment to moment. This is used to keep the DVD player spinning at constant speed instead of going very fast one moment and stop the next.
The private streams can contain audio or subtitles, in this case it is subtitles.
To make a test the way you want it you should rip the DVD again, this time not enabling stream processing, but just rip the correct PGC.

ok thank u very much
I got it. Didn't think the explanation would be so simple.
thanks again.
btw What is PGC?

PGC=ProGram Chain. The longest one is usually the main move, the shorter ones corresponds to trailers and/or extras.
