dvd burner problems(power error calibration)

hi all,

just bought a pioneer a05 two months ago and i am having problems with it already.when i try to record anything at 4 speed i get the message power calibration error.if i try it on 2 and 1 speed it will record but the dvd is a coaster.i have tried it on several brands and have had this problem.

anyone know what is causing this and what is wrong with my drive.

i got this errors shortly before my burner went to hell.

i think it could have something to do with the laser. maybe it got too hot.

I guess its time to send it back for warranty repair :(

By the way not all Pioneer drivers are like that. My Pioneer A03 has been rock solid for over a year and I've used it a LOT

My Toshiba DVDWriter did that a couple of times before my PSU ended up killing it's self, so it may be worth inversing in a descent power supply.

I called to get my A05 serviced and they said send it in and MAYBE (If I am lucky) you will get it back in 6-8 weeks. The guy actually told me that they are falling behind on service and that it would get worse before it would get better. Lucky for me I have a nec ND-1300a multiwriter drive, but this drive only rips at 4x where the A05 is 8-12x with the speed rip hacked firmware :( , By the way, did you also hack yours? Maybe the hack is frying them???

Mine wasn't hacked. I'm prety sure your drive isn't damaged, it's just something in your setup it doesn't like anymore.

I have three pc's in my house. 1 running xp home 1 xp pro and 1 win2k pro. they all record from my nec ND1300A but NONE of them burn on A05. It reads fine and goes through the burn process fine with no errors at 1x, 2x but errors out at 4x. But when i check the disc after the burn it is a blank disc or it will write for a second and coasterize. Like the laser is not working anymore...

hi maniac,
how is your nec drive? does it work with 4x RITEK G04's?? that's my "litmus test", if it works with those then I might get it. I'd love to have 4x burning capability

Haven't tried them on it. The only discs I have tried are the one from bestbuy. TDK2x dvd-r. I have just under 300 of them so it will be a while b4 I try anything else. If you know of an online shop that has a good deal on them I would consider buying some as I hear that they are good media...

had the same 'power calibration error' on my dru500ax (sony) when I tried to burn at 4x in nero 5.5.10.15.... but noticed that in dvddecryptor and recordnowmax they burned 4x just fine... then I updated my nero to v.6 and all is well

I go through a lot real fast because my wife buys like every dvd as soon as they come out, including movies and series I have over 1200 so far. I also capture all my favorite tv shows and will be putting them on dvd-r too. So yah I guess I am a maniac. Also the only reason I got 300 at once is because my boss was getting 20% off his whole purchase at bestbuy, so I took advantage...
