If anyone has this can you share with us what media you've tried with it and your successes or failures?
I'm curious to know if it works ok with Ritek 4X DVD+R disks.
I'm kinda interested in going to a 4X drive cause 1x is just too damn slow...and originally I thought about going with the Pioneer 4x DVD-R drive, but the price of this new LiteOne is amazing.

ordered it today from newegg. Probably will get it next tuesday or wednesday. I persuaded my boss into buying it for me at work "ummm like so much data I need to backup for the salesman and their new laptops have dvd-rom drives blah blah blah". It's only $144 so it's no biggie. Main thing I want to know is does it rip at 8X - 10X. I don't care for me but mainly for others. If so this would negate the need for a separate dvd-rom to achieve faster ripping speeds than 2X that most of the dvd-burners have. Then you could even buy one of the slim boxes barebone pcs and have a nice little kick arse computer. We shall see.
I think I only have 4X TDK and Memorex DVD+R to test with though. If you wanna send me one Ritek 4X DVD+R in the mail I could test it for ya.

So far I've used memorex and hp. Both worked with no problem.

@Bear263
save me the long wait... how fast is it at ripping? 10,000KB or 6,000KB or what?

Started around 5800kb and ended around 8500kb.

sweet ...here's a preliminary overview of the drive too and the guy says 8.5X ripping too. With the possibility of these being flashed to a dual format (shouldn't purchase it based on that rumor though) that's icing on the cake.

Well, I've used it about 10 times so far and I have to say it is great. I've only used memorex 4x dvd+r and hp dvd+rw on it. With the memorex 4x's, it writes at 4x steady. Takes about 13 minutes to burn a dvd. Thing is so quiet it's unreal. If it wasn't for the red light on, you would hardly know it's burning. Used Imgtool Burn on all my dvd's and my pioneer DV434 hasn't hiccupped yet. Haven't used it to rip much as I have a dvd reader also so other than what I wrote above, I can't comment on it.
There's also a updated firmware for it. Says more disk compatible.
Hope this helps those interested in it.

ah I miss those days when we didn't have a freeze on all IT spending ! maybe if the economy picks up and we can start buying stuff again I'll convince them to pick up one of these.

got my LWD-401S today at work. I love it. Only burned on the 4X DVD+RW media that came with the drive. 14:11 (for 4.33GB .iso) burn time with dvddecrypter. Will bring in memerox and tdk 4X DVD+R media tomorrow and test it out.
edit: oh yes....quiet..that's an understand-statement. My sony dru500ax sounds like a sonic jet taking off compared to this little lite-on.
