After transcoding a movie I went to burn it onto a rewritable with nero to test it out. So far so good, as the media was a plus +rw it burned and played fine. I tried to burn the exact same compilation to a minus -rw and its hangs(crashes) nero. Weird huh. I tried burning in nero with "dvd-video" and "udf" and both hang nero when I try to burn on a minus -rw. I ended up using imgtool to make an image and used DVD Decrypter to burn it. If any one has any thoughts or suggestions I'd like to hear them =)

Update: burning to other minus -r(w) media hangs nero aswell, plus +r(w) burns just fine.
I'm puzzled as to why this is happening. I don't think it's the burner.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling nero. Same results. Blah.
Seems weird that nero only likes to burn to plus +r(w) all of a sudden.

Windows 2000 Pro sp4
Nero 5.5.10.42
Sony dru500a

Cheers

Solution:

It appears that putting the burner on its own ide slot has fixed this problem.

Update:
I lied, it's still broken.
If I set the burner(dru500a) to udma it burns 2.4x +rw fine, but crashes nero on a -rw disc.
If I set the burner to pio mode it burns -rw successfully, but on a +rw(2.4x) the buffer has trouble staying full. Sigh.
