Can I replace a movie's menu with my own after stripping it?

After stripping a menu with unwanted links etc, the menu still has images of these 'dead' links even though they don't function. Would I be able to use a menu of my own design, with only the working links I chose to keep? It's not a big deal really, the DVD works fine, but it's just annoying and doesn't look good with these 'dead' links on the original menu page.
