I've found that it is a pretty good Mpeg-2 encoder as long as you go in a customize the settings a little bit and create your own setting template. Start with the DVD pre-configured setting and go from there. IMHO it's just hair away from being as good as CCE (cinema craft encoder).

As far as the DV side, Premiere 6.5 is only lacking one thing... automatic scene detection, which is a good feature of Vegas 4.0 NLE, Premieres' competition in the NLE world. However, you can set in and out points (kind of like a manual scene detection routine) ahead of time and then start the caturing process that will only capture the times in the tape you specified in the pre-assigned in and out points.

Adobe has just come out with a new version of Premiere so I haven't gotten to try it out to see if they've added any features to the DV capturing area or the mpeg encoding area.

Doesn't Premiere have like a 2GB file limit for capping analog video?

Looks like they've finally incorporated scene-change detection in this latest release. It's mentioned in the New Feature Highlight pdf doc at Adobe's site. And by default Premiere will use Adobe's new DV codec. And as for audio, Premiere will now support 5.1 audio... and, and,and.... hmmm. Where have I seen this features before? *Cough* Vegas*Cough* But it looks like very pretty though. Seems the NLE landscape is getting livelier for the windows platform.
