Which of these is most compatible? I keep hearing Ritek is the most compatible (for the price)... but not which speed. I've looked at vcdhelp.com and it seems to be that 4x is the most compatible and the others arent even really that good.
But can anyone here give me an opinion? Thanks.

what kind of drive do you have? if you have pioneer, then I would say you could pretty much use all 4x media out there and the cheapest I had heard on 4x media on and good quality is Matrix from shop4tech.com, but if you have sony, then I would suggest you to go with Ritek or optodisc due to their overall quality control!!

I have a Pioneer A03, so I can only burn 2x tops... But the only reason I'd be getting 4x is because vcdhelp.com has the least complaints with it.
What about cheapest for 2x and best quality/most compatible? In the past, I've been buying Apples from apple.com and those are flawless. But I'm looking to save some money, so I want to try cheaper brands. When I first did this, I would always end up getting like 50% bad DVD-Rs, but people are telling me it's improved since then.

there are no 2x Riteks.. the ones that are certified were never seen on the market. The 1x (G03) work just fine, but obviously the 4x (G04) are of higher quality, since 4x means smaller tolerances.
2x burning has no specs, they're basically 1x discs that Pioneer has certified for higher speeds, and while nobody really knows, I suppose that certification isn't only a matter of supplying test discs ;) There aren't really any non major brand 2x media. I would honestly not waste my time trying to find good no brand 2x media, either get the G03 and burn at 1x, or get the G04 (other 4x media might also be fine, but for the G04 I have reliable test data so I know it's a safe bet).

I have a Pioneer A03 unit with "special" firmware that allows me to try and burn all (some don't and some do with errors, but that is a disc quality control issue - lol) discs at 2X. I've burned well over 800 of the "unbranded" G03 discs as well as over 200 of the new RiData marked G03 discs with very few errors and only 6 coasters (mostly due to operator error in my early days).
As long as you buy the "unbranded" G03's from a somewhat reputable dealer, you should have little complaint with them. I did make the mistake of buying discs from new vendors that were fake G03's that did not perform well at all. I usually stick to supermediastore.com, shop4tech.com, and meritline.com when buying the G03's.

I'm right with ya, Psychotourist. I've burned over 1000 of the Riteks (G3), and they rock! I burn them on my A03 at 2x (using the hacked firmware).
I've been getting most of them from Rima.com, and sometimes allmediaoutlet.com. Now that the price of the 4x media is coming down, I'll probably switch over to the G4's soon (especially when I buy my A06 burner).

I have no complaints with the 1x Ritek media (G03). If the G04's are even better then damn life is good eh?
I wouldn't mind burning at higher speed though, sometimes its a pain having to burn at 1x all the time.

I got the 4x Ritek DVD-Rs.
I've got one of those standalone DVD Duplicators (basically like a mini computer with an LCD control screen).
Do these things take a long time to be recognized? I tried burning 2 and they were going at 2x.. I left and came back and the LCD had returned back to it's little menu thing as if it were finished... but Nothing was burned. I'm not sure what happened (because I left the room) but I did it again and the same thing happened (I left the room that time too lol).
Third time, it worked (used a 3rd DVD-R) but it burned at 1x for unknown reasons. And now I'm trying a 4th but it took like 10 minutes for it even to recognize. When it finally did, I hit the Copy button and it just did nothing...
My question is, do these things take a long time to recognize in a03s? And has anyone experienced something where it acts like its burning and then when it finishes they find that nothing even happened?
Btw, I tried some Apple 2xs and they work perfectly. :\ So, it's not the duplicator.

it'll depend on the firmware in the drive, i think. I had to flash this 4 to get it burning a lot of cheaper discs at 2x.

I wouldn't know how to flash it, since it's standalone.
Anyone wanna buy 45 4x Ritek DVD-Rs?
