JVC DVD player XV-S500BK compatability

The jvc dvd player I want to buy is listed as being compatible with dvd-r,vcd,svcd, and cd-r. Does this mean if I backup a dvd as dvd+r it won't be compatible with this player? I am also considering buying a verbatim dvd burner from tigerdirect which burns dvd+r format. any opinion or advice will be greatly appreciated.:confused:

Most newer DVD players can read DVD-R and DVD+R, but manufacturers won't explicitly say their DVD player can read DVD+R just because DVD+R is not an approved DVD Forum format.

According to the DVDRHelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=JVC+XV-S500BK+&Submit=Search&Search=Search), the JVC DVD player can read DVD+R.
