Howto convert divx3 encoded files to Xvid

I own a elta 8882 divx player, but the playback for Divx3 encoded files are a pain in the a.. !

That's why i want to reencode the divx3 encoded files to xvid.
Is there a simple solution to reencode these files with the same specs and resolution ?

What kind of software is needed ?

Just transcode the file using VirtualDubMod.
Set the video stream to Fast Recompress and leave the audio streams in direct stream copy mode.
Under compression, choose XviD, and there you go.
