You should consider getting a DVD ROM forlike $45 to rip your movies. Then you could rip alot faster than 2x or even 8x. A 16x DVDROM is what you need. Try www.newegg.com or go to a local store and pick one up for a good price.

My new Optorite burner was ripping at 1X and burning at 1.3X with 2.4X +RW. I created a new partition and put a fresh install of XP on it. Now my drive rips at 4X and burns 2.4X.

clotz--i was thinking about getting a new DVD ROM drive, but i still wanted to keep my CDRW. people say you should so you do not burn out the DVDRW. but with the old Ao5, i was able to get high rip speeds, but i think this was after the new firmware was introduced.

Hi !
Some Mags. report a combination of hardware and software problems, I guess "too much time" to make sure of the integrity of the data ... I believe Pioneer knows about it... So...
Let's wait and see what is first another drive or a Firmware hack...

With upcoming dvd burners, manufacuters are supposedly placing limitations on CSS disk copying to 2x. This maybe the situation you are experiencing, and the above post is true that hacked firmware will bypass this. However, i was experiencing a write error so I had updated the firmware off the drives website that addressed writing errors. After applying the recent firmware my drive went from and 8-10x read rate to a 1.2-1.5x rate, and the writing error still occurred. I tried rolling back to my old firmware, but the speeds were still slow, and writing was still failing. I pulled a 16x dvd-rom out of my other computer and put in my machine. The speeds didn't change, so I knew that it wasn't a firmware issue. I can't remember if I read a post on here or the Microsoft XP knowledgebase, but what I solved my slowed speed was by deleting a setting in my device manager. I opened my Device Manager and double click on IDE Devices and deleted both IDE Controllers. I restarted XP and it reloaded the drivers for the IDE Controllers. I put in a DVD, I was back to the correct ripping speeds of 12-14x on my 16x DVD-Rom, and 8-10x on my DVD-R drive. The writing error that started the whole mess came to down to the drive failing from being used so much.
