View Full Version : long standing ffdshow issue

I presume the XviD forum is closest to the ffdshow forum...

ffdshow has very sporadic CPU usage with the current alpha build, and even the 'stable' builds. In 5 seconds it can vary 0%-100% hundreds of times. This also affects the framerate of the video. For example some video playing at 23.976fps will vary from 20-30fps and will therefore be quite jerky. It would be an improvement to figure out what is causing this strange CPU usage problems for many people (I presume).
Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1750mhz @ 1.85V (Stable w/ Prime95 for 24h)
A7N8X 1.04 with 1004 BIOS
-FSB:166mhz (333)
-RAM:Corsair XMS 768MB PC3200C2 @ 166mhz (333)
-2x Seagate Barracuda IV (40GB/80GB) non-RAID
Sapphire Radeon 9500np 128MB (AGP8X)

Windows XP Professional SP1 - Installed as of July 24, 2003 (full reformat of both drives NTFS)
-DirectX 9.0b
Asus WHQLed nForce2 drivers
ATI Catalyst 3.6

I play my video with:
Media Player Classic
ffdshow build date: May 23, 2003
AC3Filter build: 0.69b

Both drives are cleanly reformatted and defragmented.

Do not trust the internal ffdshow OSD - these values are quite wrong. Instead trust your Task Manager to give you the correct values.

Hehe, okay.
But the jitteriness remains.
