http://www.doom9.org/divx-encoding.htm

There's more to this place than just a forum, hard as that may be to believe.

And if you meant truely lossless and not just "looks lossless" then use huffyuv or vble as your video codec from virtualdub rather than a lossy codec like divx or xvid

since it's for editing,
lowless codec are the way to go:
meaning:
Huff,
Loco
and marc FD yv12 codec ( forgot the name, search the forums for it)...

Of course you'll need space in hd
(for huff count 10-25gb for 10-15min approximately if i m not wrong)

I'd just like to know - what's the purpose in losslessly converting .vob into .avi? Because, as esby has pointed out: the file-size may be somewhat prohibitive. But maybe densma wanted to do this preparatory to something he has in mind...

The purpose is obvious
converstion is lowless,
no loss due to codec conversion.

basically some people do:
filtering encode
source -----------> huff --------> encoded file

Meaning if you have a problem during encode,
you can redo it from your filtered source...

When the filtering is just avs scripting,
the huff step can be skipped,
but when it is involving after effect,
you can't sometime encode on the fly in after effect,
so you are forced to go HUFF.

PS: i use Huff as a generic term, it can be any
of the lowless codec existing.

Sorry if I sound dense, esby, but what exactly is LOWLESS ? Is it the same as LOSSLESS ?

Thanks.

As far i checked.

lowless = lossless

the good use seems to be lossless,
some sites uses lowless ortograph too, in the same context.

Anyway ( lowless/lossless ) != lowsy ( like jpg)
