View Full Version : Backup Main Movie only

Hi,

I just did my first DVD-Backup by following Doom's "Main Movie Only with IfoEdit" Guide.

Has worked pretty good. But I have 2 questions about the procedures described in the guide.

1. Do I really have to make a full rip, if I only want to keep the main movie? Or could I just rip the main movie only? A litte explanation would be helpfull.

2. If the movie is still to large for a single DVD-R after stripping, is there a way to split the final stripped version? Can I just use the split-function of IfoEdit with my stripped version of the movie, or do I have to start the procedure from the begining, doing the split before stripping?

As you all can see I'm new to this. So I'm glad about every information I can get.

Bye,
Barny

Don't worry about being new to this, everyone is a noob at one time or another.

1. I'm just guessing but I think that Doom wrote that as a generic guide to get you started. Since there can be more than one titleset that may appear (by size) to contain the movie, if you rip the whole dvd to your HD you can find out which one you need and discard the rest.

2. You can use the newly built ifos to re-split, strip-stream, whatever you want without starting from the begining. Ifoedit will build 2 new sets of ifos, correct the pointers and you will be up and running.

Hope that helps...

Or could I just rip the main movie only? You can rip, in file mode, the movie's IFO and VOBs. You may get an error with a missing VIDEO_TS.IFO but disregard as it will process anyway. I just did a test before I posted so it works. If you want to feel a lot more confident without this error, just go ahead and include your VIDEO_TS.IFO into the rip.
