The file opens in media player classic, but does not play. I can jump through it and see the video, I can turn on and off the subs, change audio track, but not get it to run. If I right click, and open it up in media player, it plays fine, but with the latest version of media player I can never get it to change audio or subs.

Running XP pro, latest serive pack. Latest ffdshow loaded, and the oggds filter.

Any thoughts?

This is a long shot...But try moving the file your trying to play into a directory by itself and playing it from there.

Tried that. Same thing. I tried using bsplayer too, and it does the same thing. Just sits there.

does it work in graphedit?

I don't know. I'll have to grab it and try it out. Media Player 9 does play them, just not as nicely as media player classic does.

Does the ogm file have internal soft subs?

If it does, I think you need direct vobsub to be running with internal subtitles enabled.

It does and I do. Subs show up under media player 9. It's not like MPC or Bsplayer can't open the file. It opens without error. It just doesn't play. It just sits there, click the play button as much as you want it doesn't do anything. Even the counter sits at 00:00:00. I can manual move through the file and see the encode, it just doesn't play on it's own.

I have experienced the same thing, but only when the OGM is either downloading or is incomplete. I seriously doubt your file is downloading, but if it is broken somewhere no players AFAIK will tell you. Try opening it in VirtualDubMod and scan for errors if you must. That's all I can suggest.

I thought about that at first, but like I said, media player 9 plays it just fine. I'm just trying to find out why I can't get media player classic to run it.

Thanks.

Use Graphedit and connect to the MPC graph to see how it tries to render it.

If Zoom Player plays it and MPC is perpetually paused, I strongly suspect the file is damaged. Look into this more deeply. If you obtained the file from a fansub group or other source, ask for the original's CRC32/MD5 and compare. In any case you should use VirtualDubMod to scan for errors in the streams. I am almost certain the file is merely damaged somewhere, since that has caused identical symptoms for me.

Somehow I've just encountered this problem with a definitely undamaged OGM myself. It loads but is perpetually paused. I have found an easy fix that unfortunately incriminates the latest VSFilter built into MPC. You can deactivate it with the following steps:

1) unregister/uninstall VSFilter
2) (re)install Vobsub 2.xx
3) ensure "DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)" is not blocked in MPC
4) set MPC>Options>Plaback>Output>Video to any non-VMR (eg. OM)

This seems to fix all OGM perpetual-pausing issues in MPC. Try it. I hope it helps.

@gabest
Please repair VSFilter if you can. Thanks!
