The DivX codec which comes in the GK Codecpack

I was wondering if somebody could comment about the status of the DivX 5.05 codec which installs with the GKnot Codecpack -- does it have to be registered (it is obviously fully functional for both encoding and decoding). Is there any advantage to installing the DivX Pro bundle instead (given that I dont much care for the DivX player).
