View Full Version : Job Proposal : GUI for mkvmerge ( matroska file creation )

HI,

title says it all. We have a working skeleton code based on wxWindows, but jcsston, the original author of this GUI, has moved on to higher levels and is screwing our main library now, so we dont have something working with latest mkvmerge ( CLI commands of mkvmerge have changed a lot since the last update of the GUI ).

Before there is any kind of flaming starting about this post here, yes, i admit it, the reason i am posting this request here is that i am very jealous about zulu's nice OGMuxer GUI ... i like it a lot :D ! mkvmerge is sometimes a bit more flexible than VirtualdubMod if it comes to muxing new formats such as DTS, AAC, SSA, RV9 ( in next release :) ), and we estimate thats its going to be the most used program for basic file creation, especially if users wnat to use the more advanced stuff. VdubMod, on the other hand, can edit all those files fine ;) . However, we need a nice GUI for mkvmerge to win users that would normally not want to deal with CLI, or are simply to stupid for that ( like myself :D ) .... LOL !

Here the job description for the GUI :

1. preferably using wxWindows, for x-platform compatibility ; if you are uncertain about how to do it, jcsston can certainly help you get started, all you need is a IRC client, we are there almost 24/7
2. If 1. is not possible for you, you should preferably use a clean VB approach ( we dont want to find ourselves in other .NET discussions ;) )
3. User friendly, basic options in standard display, 'advanced options' tab for the more advanced stuff like setting max. cluster size, etc.

A HTML version of all the available commands for mkvmerge can be found here (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvmerge.html) . Please contact me via email to chris at matroska.org if you are interested.

A C/C++ or Delphi GUI would also be OK, don't feel limited to VB ;)

LoL
in a weak minute a few days ago i started one, probably to avoid the dive into the dungeons of U96 transition.
But now i found my way back to my main project yesterday, so i guess someone else should do this GUI. Especially as mine would not meet points 1..3 :D (delphi and all options in one tab, a bit overcrowded)

You go coding U96 unmei :) ! I am sorry that there is no progress being made on USF2MKS lately ( angelfire lost faith :( ), but i hope soon somebody will be interested to do that, maybe based on jcsston's LemAPI and his matroska muxer ....

BTW : I will go to your beautiful 'collapsed counties of cheesedom' tomorrow ;) ....

I assume as soon as Gordian Knot can handle mkv VirtualDubMod will be the most used program
