Experts,

I would like to ask you better way to create DVD. This is what i do...

Capture using windows movie maker in DV-AVI format which is basically an AVI file.

Import that file in Showbiz and edit that .

Save the file in MPEG-2 Format or directly save to DVD-R.

Its a very simple process but i do loose quality from avi to Dvd format.

I would really appreciate if you guys can express what is the better way to do this job. I am not looking for fancy stuff at the moment but i just dont want to loose the quality if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Moved to DV forum (more appropriate location for DV discussion).

By converting to MPEG2 (DVD format), you are going to lose quality. You can achieve high quality encodes, but it's not as simple as "download this program, and click once and here you go". Your best bet will be to start reading the Guides and read through old forum posts.

I would recommend getting Ulead Video Studio 7.0. They have a trial version that you can download.

Yes, the applications you use are not first breed (so to say). Don't know which MPEG-2 encoder you use, but often the integrated encoders compromize quality. I can recommend TMPGEnc and CCE for excellent results. That means you would save to a DV AVI file again after editing, and then you would encode this file with the standalone encoder.

For advanced users there's a lot of filtering you can do to improve quality. Most important: denoising, which can improve the overall quality.

Read up a little here on the forums - it's exciting, and there's lots of valuable information for free!

Are you in a PAL or NTSC land. As this will also have a bearing in what you are trying to achieve.

Although I understand some of the reasons why, I think it's a shame that not all members like to provide us with their location.

Maybe instead of (or as well as) the location we should have an area where we can enter whether we are in a PAL, NTSC or SECAM area!

Just a thought!
