What is the point of your post??

You have DVD that plays on PC and not on standalone, right? So did you "get VTS sectors" in Ifoedit before burning your compilation??

the point of my post is to find out more about compatability.if it plays on computer why not on standalone. the dvd plays on a friends player no problem his is a umax mine is a yamaha s520.all backups done by myself play fine having used dvd dectrypter record maxnow dvd2one where necessary.

Some players are more tolerant to compatibility issues (like filenames being in lowercase instead of upper). It could be the syntax and format are off. I've found that Windows DVD players can cope with many mistakes, where standalones aren't as forgiving.

It can also be a media compatibility issue. What brand of DVD media are you using?

datawrite red all back ups burnt by myself are fine.my first atempt with nero would not play on standalone but burnt with record maxnow did.ihave rerippedbefore and also this has been ok.but have come across a couple now that my standalone will not play. to test have copied again but something stops it from playing on my yamaha 520s.but all play on mates umax.im jealous that his £50 seems better spent than my £180.

I'm betting your problem is NERO. I have backed up many movies over the past year and have used Prassi for the ones I authored/assembled with DVDMaestro. As long as I used name brand media, these movies played fine in both of my set tops (Sony and Daewoo), as well as any other set top I've tried them in.

Recently, I got NERO OEM 5.5 with a new DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. I started using it since it would let me burn my DVD-RWs at 2X, something which Prassi won't let me do. I have discovered that DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs burned with Nero at ANY SPEED will no longer play in my Sony set top player. However, if I burn the same VIDEO_TS file onto either R or RW with Prassi, everything is fine!

Bottom line...burning programs can impact compatibility and in my experience Nero is NFG.

My $0.02...

One way to eliminate Nero as being a possible cause of the problems would be to use DVDDecrypter to read a smaller DVD (4.3gb or so), write it to the Hard Disk. Then use DVDDecrypter to burn the DVD-R. That way you eliminate conversion issues and Nero issues.

If that disc works on the standalone, then it's Nero's fault for the problems you're seeing.
