I had spent time beginning to work with video but got dragged away and now I am back. I was using a Canopus ADVC-100 to capture S-Video
from my satellite receiver.

The box seems to still be working fine and is recognized by Windows. Unfortunately, non of the software recognizes it as a capture device.

WinDV just says error: error.

I went to the Canopus forums and there is a long thread there about other people with the same problem. As best they can tell the problem started when they downloaded DirectX 9.

Do I need a codec? Any help on this problem? This is the long Canopus thread on the problem and no one knows what to do:

http://forum.canopus.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=GenADVC&Number=29625&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Any help would be greatly appreciated by many.

Thanks much.

Techically, I think that windows thinks the ADVC is just a DV camera. If you can't get any software to recognize it, your firewire drivers or card may not be working properly. I use Scenalyzer, which seems to work great. You may want to give it a try.
