View Full Version : ReAuthorist-Scenarist Import Failure

I'm having all kinds of trouble importing projects from ReAuthorist to Scenarist. The Current problem is a complete backup of Gremlins, region 1 (ntsc). I'm using the Big 3 + Scenarist, following the Doom9 guide exactly, except I skipped the step about deinterlacing for PAL. I also altered the number of passes to 8 for main movie and 5 for extras, but DoCCE4U handled that without a hiccup. What really perplexes me is that I used the same procedure on another dvd (Beast Wars Vol2), and it worked the first time but not the second time; the only differences from the first successful try were 5 passes instead of 8 and no subs.

Scenarist v2.7.0.0241
DoItFast4U v1.1.1.0
DoCCE4U v1.0.1.0
ReAuthorist v1.0.0

The errors in Scenarist:
every once in a while, there is an warning about different durations:
Warning This Video [ G:\Gremlins\VTS01\VTS__01_P01.4~3_1.MPV.M2V ] has different duration.
Warning This Video [ G:\Gremlins\VTS02\VTS__02_P04-NO-CCE.16~9_1.M2V ] has different duration.

importing continues. mostly subs, all blue. :)

then there's this whole string of similar errors, but the importation process doesn't "fail" at this point either:
Info Importing VTS_02_PGC_01
Error Class(Sub-Picture Play) Tag(Duration, 7203) failed to paste

Error Importing failed

Like I said earlier, I have used all of these version together in this process before, and it went smoothly. I must be missing something basic here....

I've searched for "import" and "error" and didn't come up with any answers (not that I understood anyway :( ), so my apologies if this is a dupe thread. if so, could someone point me to the proper thread, since I obviously can't find it.

That seems like an old issue.... you sure you have latest version of Reauthorist??

you could have a couple problems

1) corrupt m2v file
2) time code issue (was real apparent in older versions of RA)

try importing both files manually and see what the timecode shows. Then take that timecode and find the file entries in the .scp file and update accordingly.

At times RA doesn't set the time codes properly resulting in the duration issues cuasing this error:
Error The scene ( VTS_02_PGC_04, VTS02_vobid08_cellid02 ) timecode ( 00:00:00:29 ) is bigger than video duration.

I'm still new to the ins & outs of this, so it's gonna take me a while to check the time codes, but I thank you for the suggestions, and I'm looking into it as I type. :D

the5thdragon, have you made any progress on these errors?

I'm getting quite a bit of the same trouble you're having. Paste errors, timecode being off, and the dreaded 'is bigger than video duration' error.

doing things manually seemed to work in one case, in another, it just verified for me that something's fuct in the various streams.

don't have any other info, sorry. I'm just a trained monkey. :D

Hi 5thdragon,

i'm trying to backup Monsters Inc. with the BIG3 (latest releases, DC4U 1.0.1.4) + scenarist and got exactly the same error message as you did:

Warning : Number of SequenceEndCode is 2.
Error Importing failed.

Did you find the solution, or does ayone else know what causes this Error.

Any help much appreciated.

endsequence isn't your problem.. that's just a warning.. scroll back up farther in the import window and find the "Error" message

The Error message higher up says:

Error: The scene (VTS_07_PGC_02, VTS07_vobid04 cellid 01)time code (00:00:00;24) is bigger than video duration.

Now you will probably say that this is a well known problem, but what to do about it???? If that is the solution, how can importing be forced.
What goes wrong to cause this apparently seldom error? Could it be the deleting/unchecking of VTSses before hitting the Encode button?

tengooz - do as d3s7 said earlier to 5th dragon.. import the assett manually(in a separate deleteable project).. then plug the correct time code into the .scp file reauthorist made. and reimport

and/or find the scene thats causing hte problem in the script.. and adjust its time to a little less.. this happens alot with short clips..

last thing (and for me the easiest) is to deselect that pgc in reauthorist and remake the script file.. then you just have to manually import it and reauthor that pgc (again usually its small and easy to work with)

Hi wOOkiee,
i looked into the RA script and saw that several time values including the one causing the Error are negative. Is this possible/allowed? i tried to correct them to zero (00:00:00;00), then importing goes ok, but scenarist "cannot create dvd files" because of "scene shall be more than 0,4 second" and "validate from DB failed". When adjusting the time to a little less, does this mean a little more or a little less negative.

I have to read the scenarist guides to understand how to manually import a PGC and how to reauthor this PGC.

I too have constantly run into that dreaded "duration" warning/error when importing the .scp file into Scenarist. At first I figured operator error and proceeded to redo the back-up dvd from scratch. The duration error reared it's ugly head again when trying to import the .scp file. I thought, what the heck, ignored the warning, and recompiled the new dvd with Scenarist anyways. Sure enough, when I checked out the dvd, the end of the movie was cropped by the amount indicated in the warning.

First, I reviewed the log files and found nothing out of the ordinary. I then compared the main movie vob .ifo file created from Scenarist with the original. The ratio between the total number of frames from one of the scenarist created PGCs and the original was approximately 0.9986. Comparing the other PGCs showed the same ratio so I figured this mismatch is the cause of my problem. After playing around with the calculator for a bit, I found that the ratio between NTSC film rate (23.976 fps) and motion picture film rate (24 fps) is 0.999.

The Scenarist documentation describes a function called drop frame. Drop frame converts 24 fps rates to 23.976 fps rates by dropping frames in the video. I then opened the ReAuthorist.scp file in a text editor and did a search for drop frame. I found many "Drop Type=Drop frame" contained in that file. I then performed a find "Drop Type=Drop frame" and replaced all with "Drop Type=Non-drop frame". DO NOT INCLUDE THE PARENTHESIS. The edited .scp file loaded into Scenarist without any duration errors and the new PGC frame counts were almost an exact match (usually one less frame) when compared to the original.

Depending on the length of the source, I mainly use the big 3 on my episodic DVDs (45 min PGCs), you may have to edit the chapter entry points as well to coincide with the original values.

I hope others find this of value with regards to the video duration problems. I spent a very frustrating half day figuring it out.

Chewy, interesting solution and I'm surprised it worked for you. However, after trying this solution on a full length DVD it doesn't fix the "different duration" error.

By changing timecodes, do you mean editing Data Start Time and Data End Time in the ReAuthorist.scp?
