I have authored a DVD using DVD Maestro for a friend. He wants to make 500 copies and distribute them as DVD-5 media. Since I made a DVD-R using a General DVD-R blank on a General Pioneer A05, will the duplication services accept General media for creating a master for stamping out multiple DVD-5 copies. If the answer is no, do they normally accept the General DVD-R (basically from an amateur) and transfer it to a Authoring DVD-R and then make the glass master from that?

Check with your "pressor". Some do accept them, some do not. Most would prefer a DLT cassette. Your pressing house could convert your DVD-R to "Cutting Master Format", or might have other methods available to them (maybe directly to master).

Good Thread on Authoring DVDs. At the last minute, I gave DVD Lab a try and I like the easy creation of Chapter Menus that has a pro look to it. I know that DVD Lab is a lite-weight wannabe of a cross between Sonic Scenarist and DVD Maestro, but its a well done product for a first release and easy to do menus!!! However, they lack the ability to encode encryption, set Region Code, and all the other goodies I've seen in the Project setup configuration of DVD Maestro, for example. Is a Pro package needed to create the DVD files for the Pressor or could a DVD Lab be used to author the files?

if u r not interested in the missing features, a project from dvdlab is as valid as one from Maestro or Scenarist as far as the replicator is concerned.

All the DVD pressing companies I know (thats about 5 of them...) all accept DVD-R General Use for glasmastering.

I haven't yet figured out all of the details that an authoring DVD-R has that is special, but is it true that a high-end authoring program is capable of sensing that an authoring DVD-R is being used and can write the appropriate information into its special sectors?
