hey guys,
i've got this hybrid pal source i want to downsample using cce.
i has both interlaced and progressive parts.. for example it has a 2 minute part that's interlaced and then a 10 mins progressive part then 4 mins interlaced and so on..
will decomb work for this and if so with what settings?
hope you guys can help me out..

There is no need for deinterlacing. Just encode you Video interlaced with CCE. But be careful, interlaced video needs about 50% (or more) Bitrate than a progressive one.
hmmm i didn't know you could encode progressive streams interlaced.

You can with PAL because they are both at 25fps. It's a pain with NTSC because progressive is 24fps and interlaced is 30fps.
The only settings you need to worry about are the block scanning order (zigzag or alternate) and whether or not to check the progressive flag.
Either scan order will work on both types of material, it's just a matter of which one is more efficient with your hybrid source. If I had to guess I would say alternate would look better overall, because the interlaced parts need as much help as they can get.
I'm not sure what effect (if any) the progressive flag has on PAL material.

And in my experience with region 4 DVDs, it would seem that as many as half - or even more - progressive DVDs of popular films are encoded as interlaced (usually with zigzag, sometimes not though :().
i've encoded the hybrid parts interlaced in docce4u with top field first and alternate scan checked but the interlaced parts don't look right.. it's hard to explain but say when someone moves his hand it's all vague and hazy and flashy and jerky.. whatdid i do wrong?

I think yyou should use alternate for interlaced pal, and zig zag for progressive pal source.
