There's a lot of different kind of firewire cable.

Does the 50$ gold plated and shielded firewire cable give better quality capture than 10$ standard cable ?

Welcome to the forum!

I bought one for less than €3,- (Reichelt Elektronik, german store www.reichelt.de, very cheap for cables etc.), and it works like charm. Everything at higher prices is nothing but a ripoff.

The answer is: definitely not.

Like the other replies, the more expensive cable does not offer better quality. It's simply transferring bits, and all the cables do it the same. I bought my cables from NewEgg.com for $3 a piece, as opposed to the $50 I would have payed for the Belkin ones. I have a Belkin 3 ft. cable as well, and I see no difference at all. I really just feel sorry for all the people that go to places like Best Buy and pay $50 for a cable they could have had for $3.

Yep, at the end of the day having a high quality cable with 'gold plated' connectors for transfering a digital CBR signal like DV is a waste of time.

Afterall the cable is only having to cope with a load of ones and zeros running down it. Unlike an analogue signal which would and does benefit by using a better quality cable.

If you needed to use an ultra long firewire (or USB) cable there might be a case for choosing a better quality lead, due to back attenuation problems which can be associated to any signal.
