Hi,

Does somebody has a clue?

1. DVD Maestro 2.9.15.a
2. AVI (23,975 fps)
3. DVD2SVCD
4. Besweet
5. Avi2Wav Extractor v3.3

Problem: audio and video out of sync.

1. At first I load my AVI file in DVD2SVCD, with the option convert NTSC to PAL checked.
2. After the conversion I get a CCE-Pal encoded Video mpv File (25fps) and a wrong extracted audio file (total length of the movie is 1h 20 minutes, length of the audio is 8 minutes).
3.(Loading the AVI in VirtualDub or Nandub or VirtualDubMod gives the warning that the MP3 in the movie has a bad header and saving the WAV gives the same results as AVI2SVCD.
4. I used Avi2Wav who doesnt care about the header and extracts the audio right.
5. I used Besweet to convert the MP3 into AC3 with the option convert NTSC-->PAL 23,975 --> 25 fps.
6. I get a lot of errors. Here is my Besweet log file

7. I checked out if the audio and video is in sync and muxed the AC3 file with the Encoded CCE file using bbmpeg. The audio and video exactly match. But when I use DVDMaestro it is out of sync. I first load up the movie in the timeline. Then I select create sync audio. I choose the converted AC3 file but it is out of sync. No matter what I do it wont sync. I think its a shame that they ask so much for this program while it doesnt do the job.

Could somebody please help. Or is that only AVI files with wrong headers causes DVD Maestro to fail?

Maestro's sync audio is one of the most valuable assets of the program. I have yet to see another authoring prog that can do it this easy. However for the feature to work right u have to have a video and an audio that r correctly timecoded and your ac3 isn't. If u transform the audio using softencode for instance and choose to timecode it it would work ok. I t would work also if u reset the video's timecode to 0:00:00:00.

Hi,

1. First of all, thanks for your help.
2. I checked the option add Timestaps in Sonics Soft Encode.
3. Encoded the whole thing as a 5 channel AC3 audio stream.
4. Used create synch audio in DVDMaestro.
5. Got the following warning = The Timecode format of this file does not match with Video Time Code Format. Continue to use this audio anyway?
6. Selected yes
7. Result: Audio length is larger than the video length.
8. I know there is a issue about this at this forum but I couldnt find it.

Extra info:
- I have set the timecode of the movie to 00:00:00 using DVD2SVCD (AVI2SVCD.
- I have set the timecode in soft encode to 00:00:00.
- So I dont know why it complains

Well everything has his solutions. Perhaps it is the way I work, otherwhise it is DVD Maestro.

I would like it if you could help me out. I also do some more searching on this topic. I hope I will find a working solution. I hope I dont end up editing black pictures in it and that kind of stuff, because if everybody is so full of the sync audio asset in DVDMaestro it should work properly.

Thx.

Hi,

it's me again. After encoding without the timestamp, the file properly loaded itself in DVD maestro. But the audio is still exceeding the video in the timeline. Well I got depressed and said to myself what the hack lets make the DVD and watch how much it is out of sync. The difference is not noticable at the beginning but towards the end you see there is a little sync. The audio is early.

I begin seriously doubt the effectiveness of the software I use.
The created audio file with softencode is 10 seconds shorter than the film. How is it possible that after encoding there is so much difference? is this a lack in sonic soft encode?

One thing at a time.

Your initial wav is it in sync with the video?
Have u used Maestro to check their sync? If their r not u can shift the wav file on the timeline to obtain two synced streams.

U can use the sync audio feature with a wav file as well.

If u have access to a Scenarist workstation it is possible to ac3 encode the wav audio in there. Just drop it in Scenarist and reply Convert to Ac3. Check this ac3 also.

All of them ofcourse depend on the assumption that the original source is not corrupted in any way.

Hi,

Thx for helping me out this issue.

1. The original file is a mp3. The length matches the video.
2. I converted the Mp3 with besweet to 25fps and then converted to Wav, the lenght differs 10 seconds from the PAL encoded movie.
3. After this I use create synch audio in DVD maestro with the created wav file. The created sync audio file has the same lenght as the video according to the timeline (zoomed in to the max. And at first sight there should not be a sync problem believing the timeline. But after compiling and watching with windvd platinum there is no sync problem in the beginning but towards the end there is a huge sync failure. The sync failure gets bigger and bigger towards the end of the file. I have not checked it with Scenarist. When I have done that I will write it down in this thread.

Error in line 2. Conversion to wav shouldn't have yield 10 secs difference.

Open mp3 in cooledit. and save as wav. Don't mind that it came from a different fps video. Audio is run at 32fps aprox. whether pal or ntsc. Use this wav to test build your title set. U can utilise previewer in Maestro to test sync. It has a powerfull previewer that doesn't have any sync issues the way Scenarist has.

Pls report back.

Hi,

1. I loaded the MP3 (1:20:32:23) in CoolEdit Pro v2.0 and saved it as a Microsoft PCM-wav file. Ended up with a wav-file which lasts 3 minutes longer than the encoded Pal video file (1:17:22:24).
2. Used DVD Maestro to sync the audio file with the video stream.
3. Still got a Sync problem, (this time it is worse than my first attempts.)The audio seems to be too late.

For your notice.

Thx. for helping me out.

U said in a previous post that the audio matches the video in legth. How about now it is 3 mins longer?

Have u told cooledit to keep the original duration when upsampling to 48khz?

Hi,

1. when I had said that the audio matches the video length I meant that the original extracted AVI audio matches up the original video length (before encoding to PAL).
2. After converting with cooledit pro the duration of the audio hasn't changed. It is still 1:20:32:23.
3. The video length worries me. It is 3 minutes shorter than its original after encoding the NTSC AVI to PAL.
4. That's why I have said that I end up with an audio stream that is three minutes longer than the video stream.
5. I have checked the CCE encoded video with its original and they endup at the same spot.

For your information.

I think we r getting somewhere here.

So lets focus upon the ntsc to pal converion. Your video was converted using dvd2svcd right? Have u tried to transform it with another utility? There is a very nice thread about transforming a NTSC 2 Pal movie by easy2bcheesy.

Another option ofcourse is to leave the project in NTSC unless u have a realy old tv set that can't handle NTSC signal.

Hi,

Me again.

Actions:

1. Tried Canopus ProCoder (according to easy2bcheesy)
2. My encoded video and audio still differ 10 seconds.

Possible solutions:
1. Manually set the length of encoded audio in Cool Edit according to the duration of the encoded video, using the Pitch effect.
2. or if not satisfactionary manually set length audio in Soundforge xp.

When I am done I will post it in this thread.

Thx.

Well done all that , nevertheless still not in sync.

Going to try the smartripper method.
