Hi there,

as some people seem to have difficulties to find and click the "Search" button and also seem to get confused by the search page, I got inspired by a Bookmarklet from dict.leo.org (German <-> English translation page) and created one for the Doom9 forum.

It works with Mozilla, Opera and IE - make sure to grab the proper version - and you can easily search the whole Doom9 forum with it.

How does it work?

Just drag and drop those Bookmarklets into your "Personal Toolbar/Linkbar" of your browser or your bookmarks - but the toolbar would be the best option as you can better make use of the Bookmarklet then.

Then just mark a word (or some words) on a webpage and click the Bookmarklet - there will open a new window presenting the search result for the marked word from inside the Doom9 forum - easy isn't it? Or just click the Bookmarklet without having a word marked - then a tiny dialog box will ask you to enter some. After confirmation the search results will again appear in a new window.

For loyal Mozilla supporters there even is a Sidebar Search panel for the Doom9 forum that works similar to the Google Sidebar Search panel for example. Only difference is that the buttons for "Previous" and "Next" results don't work because of the forum's search way of working. But besides that the search results appear inside the sidepanel like with the Google search - so all in all the Search panel addition is some kind of handy.

For the Bookmarklets to function properly and the automatic installation of the Doom9 Sidebar Search enhancement JavaScript needs to be enabled . If you only want to use the Doom9 Sidebar Search then you can disable JavaScript after installtion.

Here's the link - and make sure you grab the correct links because there're also links for the German Doom9 forum on the webpage.

Else, have fun with it and use it please,

@gerti67

Good idea, but have no idea how to install it. IE will not let me "Save Link As". Help :confused:

Hi dwflo,

just "Drag and Drop" it to your "Personal Links" in the IE toolbar - that's all. Or you can "Drag and Drop" it directly to your "Bookmarks" - no problem - just make sure to have the "Links" toolbar visible in IE.

Yes, it's easy, and cool to boot! You've written a neat script, and as I'm just learning javascripts, I'm envious of your skills!:)
Not only are you reloaded, you're "red-hot and rollin"!

Thanks.....ammck55
