I am trying to make a VCD of a long AVI. To convert the movie to mpeg, I am using tmpeg. My problem is that when I slice it in half and encode it, the audio on the first half in in sync with the picture but the audio on the second half is out of sync. Can anyone help me out here? Also, I always convert the audio to a WAV file when encoding an AVI to mpeg.

that's one of the flaws in the merge/cut features in tmpgenc: out of sync cuts (maybe just the regular versions)

Do you know any software that does the same job but doesn't mess up the sync?

i believe the only reason why tmpgenc has that problem is cause the way it does things, first video, then audio, and finally multiplexing.
i using iFilmEdit, mark in/mark out and it will copy the selection you want, but it's not free; you can also try vcdcutter, but i haven't tried it, so i wouldn't know if it will be of any help, i think it's a demo of some sort.

What if I cut the AVI in half and then encoded it with tmpeg? Would that work?

i don't really work with *.avi, but it should work (in theory*)
cutting an *.avi in virtualdub (if you don't know how)
1. load movie into virtualdub
2. set Video & Audio to Direct Stream Copy
3. mark in/mark out
4. Save as Avi or hit F7
*meaning it shouldn't be out of sync

hey, awesome, why donīt you use the built-in range selection first,
instead of slicing your avi at all ?

Because the built in range selection in TMPEG doesn't cut the audio properly.
