View Full Version : New 1.0.6 ver! Let's show DVD2SVCD our support!
DDogg

Folks,
I'm going to do this because I know DVD2SVCD will not mention it. I think he thinks people always do the right thing without any prompting? Maybe that is why he has a whopping $28.00 paypal total as of a week or so ago, when I finally got him to tell me. How embarrassing for him, and all of us!
There is not one of us here that could not send in something to pay him back for literally hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of work on this program for us and the new 1.0.3 version. It is about time we all stepped up to the plate and made a contribution to DVD2SVCD's Paypal account. Look below! I think just the crash recovery feature is worth a damn good contribution! That's just a small part of the upgrade.
If you have noticed DVD2SVCD has not been on the forum as much as he used to be. That is because he has been hard at work on the new 1.0.3 version that should be released pretty soon, although that will be dvd2svcd's call on the exact date. I gotta tell you, It is amazing. How about this:
Crash Recovery - Restart from where you left off if you had a crash or you had to interrupt the process. Sweet!
Optional Disk Overlap - Time base overlap can be specified. Yeah!
Optional chapter creation- Time based chapters auto built for you
Optional Title Pic - Get this! You put in the name of the flick and it goes online and finds a Title cover!
Optional Change Disk Picture - auto inserted at the end of the appropriate disks
Deinterlacing filters - Allows you to specify one of several methods and to several subsets of parameters which can be automatically added to your script.
I am pretty sure he will get pissed off at me for doing this, but damn it all, I think this situation sucks! No, I don't think he expects a a penney for doing something he loves to do, but I also know a few extra bucks would not hurt a thing, ya know? Let's do it as a reward for 1.0.3 and show our support. So, right now, run, don't walk, and don't put it off any longer. It will only take a couple of minutes for crying out loud :)

someone needed to say it. Thanks for speaking up ddogg. Alright that's it I've gonna transfer some mo money to my paypal account so I can contribute some more. Usually these 'free' programs blow away $600 programs. I've only bought like 2 or three shareware programs in my life. But these paypal support programs usually the quality blows away all others because they're done for the love of programming.
Show your support via good bug reporting and chip in $10 or $20 or more to show your love for this utility. DVD2SVCD is actually one of the few programmers that answers tons of technical support questions and for what $28...that's pathetic guys.
Last contrib I made to another 'paypal' support thing was $100. Let me tell you the value is well over triple that amount it's saving me. DVD2SVCD I might not give $100 (I'm broke) but surely can give say $50.
You guys enjoy downloading 5.5MB software bundle at high speeds? The bandwidth alone costs quite a bit of money a month. And no I've never even seen 1.03 or used just keep hearing rumors...hehe

Thanks for your support and eloquence. Hehe, maybe I can arrange a preview? :-)
Edit: see the thread, "Only for the experienced"
mrbass
23rd September 2001, 00:53
nah..no preview required. I'll wait. I'm way busy reading manuals of vcdimager, cce, TSCV guides and tutorials, vcdimager easy. Both TSCV and vcdimager now have cdrdao support so I'm doing that helping out with bug reports, suggestions, etc. I'm sure the wait will be worth it.

C'mon guys! Even if you just signed up for Paypal and donated the $5 that Paypal will give you as a bonus this could really end up pretty nice if ALL of you do this. Just take the time to do it.

I don't have a credit card. Is there an address where I could mail a cash/moneyorder/travelers check donation to?

I've made my contribution earlier today. Had tried to a week ago, but had no money to send at the time. This program, like any other good program, I would gladly pay the author for his time and effort. Especially with all thetime and frustration this program alone saves me. Keep up the good work DVD2SVCD.

I just sent my $20. I didn't know about the donation thing, but I don't read everything. It is worth it, but I didn't know that until I had tested it for several weeks.
Thanks.

C'mon you guys, everybody wants to be able to restart from a crash!! Give something even if it's only small. Just made my donation.
DVD2SVCD
25th September 2001, 02:49
I just wanted to say thnx for the donations so far. But, I'll just like to say that I have not stalled version 1.0.3 just to get donations. I have been very busy with 1.0.3 and other stuff (like work and taking care of my family). Anyway I just wanted to tell you that I'm in the testing fase of 1.0.3 so it shouldn't be many days now before it's released.

Of the approx. 650 people reading this post, a whopping total of SIX (6) got off their ass. Well, to the six whole contributors I am sure dvd2svcd extends his heartfelt thanks.

I think he is shifting to the same one that Doom9 uses..kagi? or something like that.
DVD2SVCD
26th September 2001, 21:10
Yes, I am currently shifting from Paypal to Kagi. So I have removed the donation button until I have the Kagi account up and running.

mrbass

yes please keep both...also www.sendmoneyorder.com/ (http://www.sendmoneyorder.com/)
accepts 160 countries and then you can send it to paypal account from what I read.

To all who tried to make a Paypal account and live outside the US....
I wanted to make a donation so -> when on that paypal page click this tiny, small, almost invisible sentence "outside US", then you will be taken to another page for foreign users. Then, you have to fill out a form with address, credit card # ....
..... after about 6 more steps you are charged 1 $ on your credit card.
..... wait about 3 weeks, until the Dollar is on your credit card bill.....
..... now you can activate your account at PayPal.
I did all this, just to make my donation (still waiting for that bill....) - but it is not, what I would call an easy way to send some bucks....

I'll be making a donation when the Kagi account is set up. Seems there are problems with Paypal at the moment, and as I live in France, it seems better to wait. You'd think it would work anywhere, wouldn't you!?
Thanks DVD2SVCD, keep up the good work! Love the program. Learning lots as well. Anyway, if everything worked first time, we wouldn't learn nearly as much, would we...!
It's great to see the changes happening and the program benefiting from lots of input.

Ok, my KAGI account is up and running now. It is much much better than Paypal. You don't have to sign up or anything like that. All in all it only took me 2 minutes (yeah I paid a dollar to my self ;) ). So if you want you can donate anything you like. I will continue developing dvd2svcd anyway. But it's always great to be acknowledged :)

Sorry, I don't use paypal any more. But the good thing about Kagi is that you don't need an account or anything like that. It's just Plug'n'pay ;)
Delphin
28th September 2001, 15:52
Ok, my money´s on it´s way - all the way from Germany.
As I´ve seen, Kagi charges quite a lot of money for the transaction - but if you´re happy with that.
Keep on going with this great program - and thanks for answering all our stupid questions.......
With best regards

Considering this
Poll: What would you like in the next version
Not sure what the end result of the poll will be. But one of these I'm sure
Chapters equal to those on the DVD or
AVI file support (avi to svcd)
Well...best way to encourage DVD2SVCD the programmer is by throwing a few bucks his way.
Here's some money saving tips so you can contribute a few bucks.
When little monsters come knocking at your door this Halloween only give them half the usual amount of candy. Thus you save half of your Halloween candy expenses. Also their parents will be grateful for less chance of dental bills. Another HOT tip is don't buy any candy and when they say "trick or treat" do some cool magic trick for them.
This Christmas shop online and search for online coupons. Consider those $25 coupons or whatever to be free money and donate.
Give used gifts for Christmas and wrap them up as new so as to make the recipient think you spent the bucks on them.
Don't give anything to your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, significant other for Christmas. Instead just tell them you love them and that should suffice. It's worked for me in the past.
Don't let your wife/girlfriend eat a Turkey for Thanksgiving saving them from getting fat and saving the cost of a Health Club/Workout membership. Big savings which you can contribute to DVD2SVCD.
DDogg
29th October 2001, 16:22
lol, I really liked the one about saving your girlfriend from getting fat. Oh, I can see you telling her that on Christmas morning. Of course then I have another mental picture of a newspaper headline about how a guy got the crap beat out of him:
Man bludgeoned to death by a turkey in the hands of an irrate girlfriend

I am in the process of trying DVD2SVCD and had a question that relates to this thread's topic, namely the lack of contributions to the author of this great program. So how come so few people are willing to support DVD2SVCD at the amount of $20 or so, when CCE is required to be part of the supporting tools at the amount of $250 or so?
Also, how can one buy the 2.5 version that the guides/FAQs indicate IS required? The CCE web site only lists version 2.62?

When I first saw Ddogg's post, I thought
What a shame for our DVD2SVCD community!!!
So I even encourage those who have already made a contribution in 2001,
MAKE ANOTHER CONTRIBUTION!
I mean, you are getting free updates all the time, so why not show DVD2SVCD that all his bugfixing and enhancements are worth continued appreciation!
So, here's the way for your contribution in 2002 (it's so easy, also for people in Europe!)

Hi, DVD2SVCD!
I am just so happy with the program, I did not want to disturb the most important thing you're doing - programming! :-)
Any suggestions for enhancements from my side? Nope. The program's perfect for me and I am going to try out the new AVI feature now...

if u enter $xx.00 in the first screen it calculates it as
$x.00 for some reason
if u enter $xx is correctly calculates $xx.00
the site should be more professional i agree...
