I know I will be dissed for asking this question, but I will ask it anyway.
Are there any codecs that will transcode into Dolby 5.1 or DTS without having to demux the audio?
It would be much simpler if one could convert a DVD to Divx or Mpeg, with a codec that would give me 5.1 or DTS multichannel audio from the source VOB. These have been discussed here, but I have not been able to find any recent information on development.
Since some players are capable of playing many of these formats, and the interest from many users, it seems that there would be some audio codecs that could be used with i.e. flaskMPEG, DVDx, Vidomi, etc.
My wish would be to choose an audio codec that would give me the same out a I get in, without having to go through several steps to make it that way. Who uses Mono or Stereo(low bitrates)anymore, those who listen through tin cans? Get rid of some of the outdated codecs that come with Windoze. Who uses them anyway, since 3.1?
Not too sure where to begin...your question doesn't really make sense....audio on a DVD is already usually in Dolby Digital or DTS format...no need to transcode it into those formats. If you want to preserve the original DVD audio, that's very easy to do, just demux it and mux it into whatever the destination format is. If you still need more info try searching, or reading the AC3 FAQ (sticky in the Audio Encoding forum), or if I misunderstood what you are asking, my apologies.

@Kpex
I understand what you are saying, I think my explanation was wrong, so here goes.
Simply speaking, when choosing an audio codec (for example, in flaskMPEG), none have an option of selecting a "surround xxxbps"
The codecs I refer to are listed in Gspot or WindowsXP Hardware Manager.
Hope this makes sense.
edit: I am looking for a codec that will do it, without having to demux and mux!

Ok try one more time. You want to keep the audio from the DVD that's in sorround sound right? If I understand your question you want a program that will mux your audio stream into your video without having to demux the stream and then mux it again?
Well I don' think you can do that. DVD2AVI will demux your audio streams from your VOB's and then you can mux those into your avi after it's done. Gknot can mux those AC3 or DTS files into your video automaticly, but you still have to demux them.
Exactly....there's no multichannel "codec" because DVD audio is already encoded in surround sound (in most cases), no need to reencode. My recommendation would be to try a little more updated software than Flask. And you do have to demux....no way of getting audio into your encoded file than taking it out of the DVD. Muxing is lossless, however, so no worries.

Got ya! So what programs would you suggest I use?
I have used DVD2SVCD, but it will not mux my surround audio back into the output, even though there is an output setting for audio in the bbmpeg for 5.1, but does not give it. What it does give is the audio in the left front and center channels.
Had searched for an answer but was not able find one.
Since I have aquired a DVD burner, it does not seem to matter. But still would like to learn how to do it with mpeg and Divx.
Will have to keep reading up and research some more. You have answered my question, pretty much. Will have to read more on demuxing, to obtain the results I want.
Thanks, appreciate it.

Actually Hiro2k already told you...
DVD2AVI or DVD Decryptor can both demux audio, check the stickys in the appropriate forum if you still can't figure it out. Muxing, VDubMod is very reliable.
