Hi,
hello doom9,
I'm very happy to see that most of the software here are gnu or freeware....
Why not advertise "The ant movie manager", it's free and the xml creator is very impresive though.....
GBut perhaps have you interets in Xtrem movie mngr? Or are you developer of this one.....
I thin Ant is doing a very comparable job, for no money, with a community, like here.....
:)

Issues like this have been up before. Basically the developer of Ant have to ask for it, which I guess he haven't (but of course, I can't know for certain).

If you are talking about Ant Movie Catalog, well, thanks for the recomendation. I have just looked for it at Google, found it and tested it. Worked fine for me :)
This weekend I will test it a little further to see how it works with a bigger database.

This is its home page: http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog

In case anyone is interested, this are its features, as mentioned in the official site:

User interface translated in several languages: English (default), Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish
Can store catalog in two file format: its own binary format or XML
Import information from Internet (using scripts); by default it includes scripts for IMDB (US), Allociné (FR), DVDFR (FR), Monsieur Cinéma (FR), Culturalia (ES), OFDb (DE), and lots of others
User-customizable links to do a search on movie websites
Information importation from avi/divx files (audio & video codec, bitrates, resolution, framerate, size)
Scripting technology, using Object Pascal language, allowing to modify catalog: Find & replace, moving field values, ...
Printing, using customizable templates
Export to other formats: HTML (based on a template that you can modify or create yourself), SQL commands (to re-import data in a DBMS such as MySQL), CSV (text files, can be used as tables with Microsft Excel for example), Origons.com
Import from other formats: CSV (Microsoft Excel can create such files, but a plain text file can be used too), Divx Manager, BaseDVDivx, Origons.com
Can store pictures inside catalog or link to external files (recommended for large pictures)
Supports PNG, JPEG and GIF
Loans management
Statistics with chart and pies
Can display the list as a tree, where movies are grouped by a specified field
Tested successfuly under Windows 95 & 98 (avec quelques mises ŕ jour), Windows NT4 Workstation (SP4 required), Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional

Movie managers don't have much to do with DVD conversion topics, hence they never make it through submission.

Hi,

DVD conversion topics
really? :)

but these programs appear in the news. And since I consider domm9.net, as much as a big media for dvd conversion, I'm just wondering why this great (free) tools does not appear in the news (in contrario with others ;) )

Will ask antp for this doom9-asking-news-for-his-prog

Hi, (I am the creator of Ant Movie Catalog)
Since I do not have time to announce updates everywhere, I usually do that only on my forum, my site, and the forum of hardware.fr
For the moment there aren't new releases of AMC (Ant Movie Catalog) because I am working on version 4. I won't probably update version 3.x so except few translation/templates/scripts update there are not lots of interesting news.
Well, a news on doom9.org may be nice, since I do not think that I ever saw a news about AMC on this site (that's not a reproach ;)).

Thanks to hubereevez who give me info when something happens on doom9 ;)

@antp:

Your program is really cool. I am already using it :)

I have a sugestion to make, though. Can you add a field for rating (I don´t know how to name it, but I mean a field were you can put if the movie is PG-13, R, etc, so I can tell if a movie is suitable for kids, for example)? Maybe you can add that to next version.

Thanks in advance

:D

I plan to add lots of fields in next version, do not worry ;)

hmmm.. this was actually quite impressive ;)

I'm still working on my own little project here, as all these movie managers always have lacked something.

Does this one have a fileviewer? Ie, does it store all filenames (with sizes, dates etc) associated with a title? Is it possible to associate for example 2 CD's with one title and put a custom number these CD's? Ie; have a tree-view for a title (or rip), which includes one or more storage units (with labels and serials and assigned media numbers) - much like an Explorer treeview (like in WhereIsIt for example)?

I plan to add the possibility to add "master" items, and "detail" items (in your case, master = movie, detail = cd).
It will maybe be possible in version 4. If not, it will be in one of the next version (4.1 or 4.2)

@antp:
Any idea of aproximatelly when you will release version 4?

@hubereevez or any Moderator:
Can you change the subject of this thread so that it tells people what is inside of it? i.e: "A Free Movie Manager", or "Ant Movie Manager, free Movie Manager", or whatever.

Dear cofferscuffs,

can you make sentences? :)
Do you read the news, I do! And I wonder why divx/dvd-shareware-manager are in the news :
eXtreme Movie Manager 1.7b1 has a new HTML database, includes an option to set the title of a movie to the original title
And not free one like Ant Movie Catalog (http://www.antp.be) (as other free soft here)

I think that the reason why eXtreme Movie Manager is on the news and Ant not is because XMM is developed very hard everyday and released often, Ant MM not. Simply

hubereevez

Yep, you're certainly right....
But AMC were never been in the news (I think).
Finally, the community is developping a very interesting xslt template (see in template folder), this one is often update, and discuss in the antp forum....

I am not sure that my program is not developped very hard everyday :p
Currently there are not releases because I rewrite it from scratch, but in past months/years there were often new versions and script updates.

AntP I hope you are not offended by my words, I have only write why AntP MM was not on the news...:(

Hi,
and some Third-Party utility for put collections online made with ASP and .NET
Sorry,
Didn't quite understand your sentence  , my English may be crappy too, please edit your last post...
However, I have see in the past the news
I didn't, try this link (http://www.doom9.org/search.htm) to check it.
What I do not like in EMM follows:
When you will try it, you cannot try everything ("only register user can" blablabla) like movie cards or new templates.
It's not multilanguage (or it is but a very old one).
You must pay for it, but a large community (as far as I know) help to develop templates (are they paid?).

My question follows:
AleTsg, in your profile, it seems that you're the author of EMM, are you making good money or are you investing this money to this project? And is Doom9 a part of this project?
Like I said at the beginning of this thread, www.doom9.net is getting the reference of "DVD backup resource". That's why I'm interested in which program is promoted and why....Doom9 said that he does not want to be a divxdigest and I quite understand that. I always felt that this site were promoting free and community helping software, that's why I just wonder why promoting this paying soft now and not a free one (award one moreover).

Regards

Hubhub

Ps : this discussion may be closed, just wanted to promote AMC, didn't succeed either :(

Edit : sorry didn't saw you're two last posts....

Hi,

Please let me "answer".

The only "limitation" is the 50 movies, all others thing are fully functional. It's fully multilanguage, we (the community) are translating all part of the software, we have left only few work to do.

Making good money ? let me smile please :D

I have make XMM shareware because I need to cover the cost of VB, Office etc.. licenses (and I think you know how much it cost), and finally I have also to pay taxes and vat on this 10$ that I ask for the software... so, if you calculate, you can easily understand that we develop it only for fun, not for the money. BUT we don't want also lose our money. I hope you understand this. Of course, like much of free software, I could develop programs with pirate copy of VB, but I don't want "break the law" in any case.

I forget : doom9 is not a part of XMM project, absolutely.

Oki,
:)
thanks, quiet clear now !
You know that as "trying user", I cannot access to the latest Movie Card Download (for the pasts versions) i.e. I donnot have access to the latest XMM.
I understand your point :D
I'll not post more reply to this thread...but will creat new one (or antp) when new AMC will be created...
Thanks for your answers alessandro

PS : I can't resist sorry :

mainly because they probably got sent to doom9 directly, whereas all movie managers that get sent through submission get deleted by me.

and if you're wondering why... i've been sent loads of movie managers, and tbh none have ever been usefull to me, due to the fact all i care about is the movie name, and if i wanted to find a movie, id just search one of my cd wallets. or do a dupe on a dupecheck.

and no, i can't make english sentences. so i probably won't be replying to this topic again.
